  1. I'm really looking forward to talking about a cliff for everyday until this site closes. It makes me very appreciated of April 2016 when we had nothing every to talk about before then. Someday, we'll talk in TalkSox terms that 2015 was 1 year BC (Before Cliff). We are now 1 year AD (After Deluge of cliff posts).
  2. But it is a certainty that we'll have to hear about it everyday for the next however many years.
  3. Sandoval and Hanley's contracts will come off the books. JBJ is not a $20M player as projected. Xander is not a $20M player as projected. They can sign anyone they want to. Kimbrel and Sale and Pomeranz can all be replaced by future signings or trades. Sale and Pomeranz may not be long term options anyway (health).
  4. The prospects were used to fix the underlying problem with the system that Theo and Ben had. THEY COULDN'T DEVELOP PITCHING.
  5. Did the cliff just move back from 2020 to 2021???? Does that mean it could move back to 2022 and then 2023 and then.....???
  6. Espinoza isn't part of the window. He had major surgery and now is the Padres 7th ranked prospect. He won't be ready in 2 years.
  7. Porcello isn't a FA until after 2019?
  8. I like Lin too. If he can be a passable contact hitter, he should be in BOS not Holt.
  9. Don't ever bet on a player continuing to get better.
  10. Raudes doesn't have much trade value.
  11. That's a hard pass for me. Trade one middle of the order bat under contract for two seasons for another? What's the point?
  12. After living in SF, I could never say this.
  13. I don't want to trade any MLB players.
  14. Nope, need to trade for another. Our best offense was with Manny AND Papi. Need to recreate that.
  15. @PeteAbe No surprise, but Dave Dombrowski says the #RedSox will indeed get in the Ohtani race … Also, all-arb eligibles will be tendered on Friday as of now.
  16. I've heard that the Giants have interest in JBJ, but haven't heard anything about the ChiSox.
  17. I'm trying my best! A lot of it will wind up being hogwash, but at least it gives us something to talk about when nothing is going on.
  18. @tmckernan From @CraigMish on @TMASTL re: #STLCards and #Stanton: I have been told the #SFGiants are willing to take on the entire contract, and that makes the Giants the favorites right now with the Cardinals in second place. I think the Giants are all-in until the end to get Stanton. @tmckernan From @CraigMish: I think the #STLCards have the most have to offer. It's my belief that the #SFGiants are all-in on this, so that makes the Giants the favorite. So, I'd rank it: 1. Giants 2. Cardinals 3. #Dodgers 4. #RedSox
  19. 4th in just 93 games is VERY misleading. Of the players lower than him in WAR in 2015, only Brock Holt played more games (2.5 vs Pedey's 2.6). JBJ played in fewer games and was at 2.5. And if you think that's a clean slide, I don't know what to tell you. You are no longer allowed to slide through the bag in the way Machado did. Edit: And I never once said trade him for nothing. I've always said trade him before his value slips to where you can't get anything for him. I wanted him traded during/after 2016 when his WAR was higher than it had been for 5 years.
  20. Stanton will opt out in 3 years. Stanton's asking price has been noted as being high. At least kick the tires, which is what the Sox are rightfully doing. I would be shocked if the talks between the terms were moving along and the Sox said "well, let's just trade MORE assets for Abreu than we would have for Stanton."
  21. He was a 28 year old minor leaguer last year when his power developed. He seems to have a track similar to Brandon Moss who was a capable player from 28 - 31. All anyone is really saying is give him a chance.
  22. Less than what it would take to get Stanton probably and he plays a position that actually needs to be filled.
  23. Considering the length of contracts, it would have been harder to go over last year (and still be worth it), but stay under this year.
  24. No, that was Bobby Abreu.
  25. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/red-sox-other-teams-discussing-jose-abreu-trade-scenarios-with-white-sox-mlb-rumors.html The Red Sox are among the organizations “in active talks” with the White Sox regarding veteran slugger Jose Abreu, according to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag (via Twitter). It is not clear at the moment which other teams might be involved or how far talks might have progressed. MLBTR’s Mark Polishuk recently examined the potential market for Abreu, citing Boston as one of the major possible suitors. Of course, there are also quite a few other organizations that would likely see merit in his contract rights. Trade for Abreu. Sign JD. Two more rings AT LEAST.
