It's basically a skill that allows a catcher to either pull a pitch from being off the outside corner to make it look better and have a better chance of the ump calling it a strike.
The opposite can be true as well. Eck was talking about it on a recent game where an opposing catcher caught a ball well in the zone, but he pulled his glove out of the zone when catching it so it made the ump think the pitch was a ball.
Until robot umps are brought in, pitch framing and having a steady hand will be somewhat important. It's not the end all be all, but it has a little value.
The sting of losing hurts as much as the glory of winning.
Give me a competitive team with the potential to win it all for the next 10 years over 2 rings and 8 last place finishes.
Sure it is. He's selling some guys at peak value (Kopech, Moncada, et al) and keeping the prospects he likes. This team is still very young (Betts, Beni, JBJ, Xander, Devers, Vazquez) and should compete for a long while. He's done a good job at building this bullpen with a lot of AAA guys doing their part (Poyner, Braiser, etc) and we all were told that was DD's achilles heel.
Not unfair. Look at their farm. Beeks would be their best pitching prospect in AAA. Harmony takes enough shots at the Sox, I may as well take one back at the M's...
According to some people, we are supposed to be happy if we win in 2018 and go into the tank the following seasons.
I just want them to be competitive every year.
That's not true. Last place finishes ruin summers and hurt overall attendance for the end of that season and the start of the following season.
2015 wasn't a fluke. That team stunk.
Kopech 2018 AAA:
4.70 ERA, 111 K, 56 BB, WHIP 1.43
Let's not act like Kopech is a sure thing to be a good starter.
Moncada is -1.2 oWAR, -1.0 dWAR in 2018 (34.9 K%) and 2 years older than Devers.
Margot is a good defensive player (not as good as JBJ) and a bad offensive player (worse than JBJ).
Sox potential future HOFers:
2018:
Betts, Beni, JD, Sale, Price, Kimbrel, Xander?
1978:
Eck, Tiant, Fisk, Yaz, Rice, Evans, Lynn? Anyone else seen as a potential HOF guy if all things broke right on the 1978 squad?

Machado has been in the Tigers system for almost 10 years now. They kept him on the roster all season in 2017 when he was out of options, and the second baseman’s job was his for the taking in 2018. But while Machado has transitioned well to second base defensively, there is just no sign of any production from him at the plate (either present or future) and this indicates the Tigers moving on from him as part of their plans.
Tigers dumped him to keep Victor Reyes (a pinch running rule V pick) and put Ronny Rodriguez on the roster (a guy who a top 30 Tiger prospect). I think that says a lot about his future.
If Price can just stay healthy, it won't be as onerous as the Hanley and Sandoval deals. Price eats innings for breakfast and has a lot of value to the team. I'm still worried about his arm falling apart tho.
Interesting that he isn't spouting off this year like he had in previous years under Farrell...
People were really just fired up because it was really the bottom third of the lineup that wasn't hitting. If it was just JBJ, it wouldn't have been a big deal. JBJ became the whipping boy just because he was in the 9th spot and we've seen him have some really hot stretches. I also just think a large portion of people on here just don't like him for whatever reason.
To me, if he hits 250, he's fine. I wouldn't give him $20M/year, but he's fine. I'd keep him around.
If you think it's the best team ever, I'll have to take your word for it.
I loved the 2003 and 2004 teams with peak Manny and Papi, but you've seen far more than I probably ever will.
People are complaining that he needs to go back to AAA and dominate there before he comes up. When you look at his numbers, he is dominating in AAA. I'm not sure what else he has to prove there. He needs to prove in in MLB either in the rotation or the pen.
Hard to be offered a job if you aren't looking. Ben probably needed a rest and he had enough money to enjoy his time off. Can't fault him for that. He ended up getting a pretty good gig eventually anyway.
It's not like he was doing off-Broadway with Duquette.
