  1. Didn't Sosa and McGwire save baseball?
  2. I think the floor for the 2020 team would have been last year's 84 wins, but the ceiling is competing with the Yanks/Rays for the division. It was risky for sure.
  3. It's also the same basic team from 2018 that lapped the field.
  4. I'd say make it more HR happy.
  5. Unproven? Bloom had a pretty good track record in TB. I think they are punting this season and trying to build something long term. I agree with others that they could be big sellers at the deadline even if they are above .500. There's no pressure on this season. Nobody is going to be watching. They waved the white flag when they moved Betts.
  6. The best chance for him to come back is for ticket sales and ratings to absolutely suck balls this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  7. I'm not arguing that it didn't have to be done. I'm just saying that this is a situation that I haven't had to go through as a fan of the Red Sox. I wasn't shitposting in the sandbox in PreK when Fisk and Lynn left.
  8. Maybe he likes his current options better? If you guys have faith that Bloom knows what he's doing, you'll have to just agree that he's doing the right thing now.
  9. It hasn't been reported what he is signing for.
  10. When Clemens left, a lot of people thought he was fat and washed up. It's not the same as Betts leaving.
  11. People keep saying "pitching" but there isn't really anything of value left. Maybe Bloom has made a few MiLB offers to pitchers but they are holding out for something better? Maybe Bloom just doesn't like the pitchers left?
  12. Yeah, IDK. If you're going to say that everyone left, at least try to back up your position. However, if you don't know who Alex Speier is, I honestly don't think you're really paying attention and are just making stuff up. The Fangraphs interview I posted was conducted AFTER DD was let go. If DD had ruined the analytics department, I'm sure the Sox wouldn't be saying that it actually grew under DD's leadership.
  13. I like the Bloom is finding cheap options and upgrading everywhere he can, even if it's just at backup catcher. I wonder if Bloom just doesn't like the pitchers that are left sitting around in FA.
  14. Chris Cotillo: Sources: Red Sox close to deal with catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Depth option behind Vazquez, Plawecki. Likely a minor league deal.
  15. Bounce back season? Depth signing?
  16. Boggs, Nomar, Manny, Pedro were all on the downswing of their careers.
  17. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-conversation-with-red-sox-analytics-department-overseer-zack-scott/ I haven’t seen it noted anywhere that there was a mass exodus under DD. Read this interview where it states the department grew under DD. If you don’t know Alex Speier, you must not watch many Sox games.
  18. The last time a star player left near the top of his game was either Fred Lynn or Carlton Fisk. Lester is a step below those guys IMO.
  19. I would agree. I didn’t expect him to make miracles. He’ll need a few years to make his mark.
  20. Waiting on the panic move of re-signing Mookie this fall........
  21. @PeteAbe Attendance for the first #RedSox full-squad workout in recent years: 2017: 1,287 2018: 1,360 2019: 1,525 2020: 1,033
  22. Nationals stated they mixed up signs throughout the game and often during an inning. Maybe that's how they won?
  23. Fans to Henry rn: You deserve it! clap clap clapclapclap You deserive it! clap clap clapclapclap
  24. @joonlee Kennedy says Red Sox ticket sales are down 15 percent versus this time last year
  25. Boone, whose team played the Red Sox 23 times in 2018 between the regular season and postseason, said the Yankees didn’t necessarily have suspicions that the Red Sox were doing anything outside the rules. “I think there’s moments throughout the year when you’re always worried about that,” Boone said. “Not just with the Red Sox. All teams are guarding against that and there’s times that maybe they’ve got a tip or they’ve gotten something from somewhere. You also understand it’s on you to guard that, protect that and be aware of those things.” So Boone thinks there isn't smoke but Jacko does?
