  1. Problem is that we have no idea what the luxury tax will look like in 13 years. After the next CBA, everything could be completely different. Mookie's deal will be signed before we have any clue what the next CBA looks like.
  2. I think I came to that realization when Princess Diana died while being chased by the paparazzi. Media and paparazzi are one in the same, just covering different stories. It doesn't help that now the driver for sports news is how many clicks you can get rather than how good your piece is written.
  3. We'll have to see what the bidding looks like next winter. Maybe he doesn't have a great season this year and the Sox can get him for about 300? Maybe someone comes in and does offer 420/12 or more? I have to trust that the FO has a number that they will stop at. I may not agree with that number (being a big fan of Mookie's) and I certainly have a right to grumble about it. I think that once the games actually start, we'll have a lot more to talk about than hypothetical FA markets. It'll be a good thing.
  4. At the beginning of the offseason, some people were saying he'd get 7M AAV. There's no way that's the case now.
  5. @ChrisCotillo The Red Sox are not sure if Dustin Pedroia will report to camp with the rest of the position players over the weekend:
  6. MVP outsourced his posting to India.
  7. Some people don't realize the importance of bench/role players? IDK. I like this move.
  8. If they feel that dumping Mookie was the best course of action, they need to make that move regardless of fan backlash. That's why the nonsense about "Sox trying to back out" was fairly disheartening.
  9. I believe he is one of the few instances where you take that risk.
  10. Sox are going to be criticized no matter what moves they make.
  11. I think that's probably too much salary inflation, but you never know.
  12. Quarantine Sale.
  13. @WEEI Pedro Martinez working with top Red Sox pitching prospect Bryan Mata. Stuff like this is my favorite part of ST.
  14. Need to trade all our pitchers away so that he'll have that opportunity again.
  15. It certainly could. I just believe that's probably the case since they were involved with similar f***ery in regards to Lester.
  16. Some others would even say that Agganis was one of the greatest players to come through the system. I think it's hard to really judge players that don't have long careers.
  17. If you don't like my posts, instead of constantly referring to them as non sequiturs and s***, you could just use the ignore feature.
  18. I believe the Sox ownership are on record as saying "well, we realized that with his counter that he didn't really want to further explore negotiations."
  19. Walk, chew gum, carry his Barnes & Noble bag AND get a starting pitcher.
  20. Yes, Betts is better than Rice, Boggs, Bagwell and Fisk IMO.
  21. I meant Williams. Sorry. Bad posting today.
  22. I'm sorry that it hurts you so much that I talk negatively about Henry. I realize this is personal for you. I think he's being an idiot for not signing him to a deal. Clearly 12/420 was an opening bid. The Sox were at 10/300. I think that if the Sox really wanted to sign Betts, they would have figured out where to meet in the middle.
  23. Is Duran a high enough prospect to bring back a starter even in a package? I'm not really high on him. Seems like we'd be better able to move current major league talent for younger cost controlled players (i.e. the Miller for ERod trade).
  24. Non sequitur conversation stopper. If I ask a question, it's just a question. I'm not inferring that anyone believes that. I just assumed that someone could reasonably make the case that choosing not to retain Mookie was not to save ownership money, but for some other purpose. Does payroll flexibility today help the Red Sox down the line? Nobody knows. I'd just rather put all my eggs into the basket of one of the 3 best players in the game. Interesting that this position gets people hot and bothered.
