Why? He has the same sprint speed as Beni. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/sprint_speed?year=2020&position=&team=BOS&min=10
He's also got a much stronger arm than Beni.
At 3b and then transition to DH. My assumption is that Casas will be at 1b and we should probably leave him there.
Honestly, I want to see Devers defense with one more year under Cora. If he flops in 2021 at 3b, then move him off position. LF?
He's definitely going longer than one year unless some team is going to offer something like 1/35. That's unlikely though since whoever signs him loses a pick.
Or that his WHIP went from 1.08 to 1.39? Or that his k rate was his lowest since 2015? Or that his LOB% was his worst since 2016? Or that his ERA- was 111? Or that his barrel% was his highest since it had ever been tracked?
But maybe it was because the Rays just went a little overboard with actually trying to win some regular season games? Maybe it had nothing to do with how Morton was actually pitching!
Snell didn't pitch 6 innings in any game either. However, Morton's declining metrics leave me to believe he won't be a 6 fWAR pitcher this year.
I think you're expecting a little too much out of Morton.
Morton averaged 5.8 innings per start in 2019. He pitched 6 innings in 21 of 33 starts (64%).
Morton averaged 4.2 innings per start in 2020. He didn't pitch 6 innings in any start (0%).
He had a career year in 2019 as a 36 year old. I don't think he'll be doing that ever again.
The one great season he had was the last full season he was able to play. He was turning it around last year. The second half of the season he OPS'd 897. That's only 19 points less than "his one great season."
