  1. There must be more to the Munoz story since we haven't heard of him bitching while at the alternate site.
  2. I think the contracts MLB has thrown around since ARod's mega deal show that to be false.
  3. All I'm saying is that Ben's drafting and org development is overrated.
  4. If they had played the same amount of games, Happ would have a much better fWAR than Beni. Also, Beni's abbertation year of 2018 is really pumping up those numbers. If that Beni doesn't ever come back, Happ is definitely the better player. Happ has a better career OPS and WRC. Happ is also a much better fielder. Beni is adequate in LF. When Happ plays LF, he's been great.
  5. Exactly. I think there's going to be a learning curve for some hitters the next two years since this season is very abnormal. At the very least, you need to see what you have and at least a poor performance isn't dragging the team down. I think Chavis, Munoz, Arauz and Dalbec should all be playing every day.
  6. Moncada was fine, the problem was when they went back to the well the following year. That's when they really got nailed and set the org back.
  7. Also, I'm not sure they can pat themselves on the back for BUMintendi right now. Guys drafted after him: Happ, Buehler 5 All Stars have come out of that draft so far. Benny isn't one of them.
  8. Moncada signing caused the initial $300k cap for signings in 2015 (he signed in 2014). In 2015, they tried getting around that rule again and that's when they faced this stiffer 2016-2017 penalties.
  9. Needs to manage the tightrope of spending flexibility, growing a farm system and feeding the monster (aka competing).
  10. The expectation is fans will be back next year and business will be back to normal. I don't think the Dodgers wanted to lose out on Betts this offseason just because they wanted to have a smaller loss this year. The push for fewer games and reduced pay was a negotiating ploy to fix spending for the next CBA. I think they started out with a bad position and never dug themselves out of it. I don't think owners like John Henry were leading that charge. They would have probably preferred more games for the tv ratings. I don't believe that every owner is in the same financial position and wants the same thing for their teams. They aren't some monolith voting block. Hard to compare the wants and needs of Pirates owners and Red Sox owners even though they both have really bad teams this year.
  11. Dodgers are leading the league in shifting though? I have to say that I do roll my eyes from time to time when the Sox get burned by the shift, but I'm getting used to it.
  12. I think "these circumstances" are overblown when talking about uber rich like baseball owners. I don't think the pandemic significantly altered their baseball budgets at all. I don't think there is going to be as much of a downturn in FA signings this offseason as people expect.
  13. Sox are 24th in the league in shifting. Maybe they aren't doing it enough! However, the Braves/A's/Padres have all been pretty good and they are at the bottom in terms of shifting.
  14. No, I'm not surprised. 1. LA is desperate to get over the hump. 2. LA is very "star" driven. 3. LA has a huge tv contract. 4. LA has lots of young guys on cheap contracts (for now). It was the perfect storm for Betts to sign a long term deal with the Dodgers. If the Dodgers had won the WS in the past few years, they would not have made this move.
  15. I think it shows that he was better for the clubhouse than say the Pedroia "it's them not me" thing. If he was upset about something Eck said about himself, that's one thing, but he was defending ERod from Eck's comments.
  16. Price was just trying to stand up for his teammate. I think that was all overblown. People don't bring up the JBJ/Eck thing as much as they bring up Price/Eck. In fact, JBJ's tweet is still up. @JackieBradleyJr Huge thanks to @Eck43 for saying all the things I "can't"do these past few days. People like you is what drives me
  17. I was thinking to just do a gamethread for each series. If the Sox win or tie a series, the poster makes the next series. Seems better than numerous 2 page posts about the Blue Jays or whatever.
  18. I thought he would have been lucky to get 300 tho?!?!? Shouldn’t his mom have told him to extend with Sox?!?!?
  19. 6 relievers? No. Taylor, DHern, Barnes, Valdez and Brewer are fine. Need probably 2 - 3.
  20. Ben didn’t do all that great with the draft. Betts was drafted in 2011. Ben botched the Trey Ball pick, his first shot to put a real stamp on this system. He also was in charge when the Sox got in trouble with their international spending which set them back.
  21. Should have traded Pedroia after the first month, right? Nixon too?
  22. Shut Eovaldi down... @alexspeier Nate Eovaldi threw a bullpen but still feels soreness in his strained calf, so he’s going to be pushed back again. He’s unlikely to pitch again before late next week.
  23. so about JD opting out... @joonlee Given the level of uncertainty around free-agency -- around the financial state of the game to player evaluation during a shortened season -- JD Martinez said he "would not want to be a free-agent during this time"
  24. @PeteAbe Grullon hit .283/.354/.496 in 108 games in AAA last season, 21 HRs. No. 16 prospect in Phils organization entering the season per @BaseballAmerica 4:10 PM · Sep 3, 2020·TweetDeck
