  1. Baseball draft is the crapest of crapshoots. However, having a higher pick gives you a better chance to pick a guy you really like.
  2. That's what happens when you trade all your picks AND cheat to draft Ewing #1.
  3. I'm not super worried about it. Was just answering the question.
  4. Right now they are about the 5th overall pick. There are a bunch of teams bunched around 19-22 wins. Sox could drop to about the 10th pick if they play well over the next 6 games.
  5. Well, he won't get that on the open market.
  6. Probably 2 year deal. 2/12?
  7. Maybe they just shut him down 9/1/21?
  8. I'm not saying it's a perfect plan, but it's a way to manage Houck's innings (if the Sox think they need to do that).
  9. @SoxNotes In his last 31 games (beginning Aug. 14), Jackie Bradley Jr. has hit .306 with an .894 OPS. According to Statcast, Bradley has recorded 6 outs above average, tied with Luis Robert for most in the majors among outfielders. JBJ is coming back next year, baby...
  10. I think it means they just put him on an innings limit and maybe push him to the pen when/if Sale comes back.
  11. Munoz and Arroyo are already here too.
  12. If the Sox sweep the series, they will tie the O's in the standings. Tonight is the debut of Pivetta. Akin is going for the O's. Eovaldi vs Kremer tomorrow and Perez vs Cobb on Thursday. They win tonight and they have a legit shot to sweep this series.
  13. Yes, they have a budget. It's why they've been laying off office staff recently.
  14. 2 sounds about right to me. Lots of AAAA filler too.
  15. Lin has been horrible this season. I think he gets nontendered in the offseason.
  16. I think his post is to stay away from "toolsy" guys. If there is a projection of hitter OR pitcher (i.e. not both), I think 5g is fine with it.
  17. I disagree with this with every fiber of my being.
  18. Bloom will definitely grab a bunch of AAAA back-ups. We saw that in how he built this year's pen. Will the results be similar?
  19. Chavis is definitely a platoon/bench role for me. I'd just rather pay him minimal than grabbing a FA. I don't expect the other guys to necessarily be fulltime either. Maybe Munoz and Arroyo play hot potato with 2B. I think Arroyo takes Arauz' roster spot. I think Munoz is just a backup OF. They still need to figure out who gets CF. 2B by committee?
  20. If you only look at Carrasco's bad seasons, he's very unreliable.
  21. If the Dodgers didn't want him, Bloom would have shopped Price to other teams. It's not like pitching (and pitching that is guaranteed to eat innings) is easy to come by.
  22. I read it. Maybe your editor should have left out the first sentence if it wasn't relevant to your overall point?
  23. I think it makes it very likely that he gets a spot in the rotation next year. If they had 5 starters already penciled in, he's probably in AAA. Right now, the only guy you can count on is Perez (ERod out due to COVID?, Sale out due to TJS, Eovaldi career health struggles).
  24. They need to spend a lot of money and save wherever they can. That most likely means filling in with guys like Chavis/Dalbec/Houck/Munoz/Arroyo.
