  1. I've heard that word pronounced 3 different ways: bone-uh-fIdEEs bone-uh-fEEdess bon-uh-fIdes And they are apparently all correct?
  2. Bloom wasn't calling the shots in Tampa though.
  3. I think we assume that his style is that way, but we won't really know for a few years. I think Theo did the best job at building a strong farm system while staying in contention. If things didn't fall apart for him in 2011, maybe he would have been a part of another Sox run.
  4. Like has been mentioned elsewhere, nearly 75% of the FA market remains unsigned. There's a long way to go for this offseason. We haven't even begun to fight about the Carlos Hi Ho Silvas of the world yet! My guess is Bloom signs 4 more MLB contract guys (CF, SP, 2 RPs) and 5 more MiLB contract guys.
  5. And his persona.
  6. If the Sox signed him for that, I'd have to go throw up in a trash can.
  7. Hard to really say what Bloom's style is. He spent last offseason slashing payroll because of ownership mandate. Now, he's stuck in a weird offseason where teams are expecting a depressed market and don't know how many games will be played or if fans will even be in attendance in certain cities.
  8. There are 111 pitchers still available, 68 relievers and 43 starters. Notable starters available: Archer Arrieta Bailey Bauer Foltynewicz Hamels Happ Hill Kluber Leake Lester Odorizzi Paxton Martin Perez Porcello Quintana Richards Rodon Ross Samardzija Shoemaker Sugano Tanaka Walker Wood Zimmerman Some of those guys are a little long in the tooth or have health concerns, but I think you could still round out your rotation with them if you're signing for depth.
  9. Per MLBTradeRumors: 73 out of 289 FAs have been signed or 25%. Lots of guys left and we've been saying all along that Bloom will most likely wait until later in the offseason to make his moves as he will try to be buying low in a depressed market.
  10. I heard that BOH is calling all the shots and Bloom is just a fall guy.
  11. I think he's just agreeing that other teams would be more apt to go for Contreras than Vazquez so that it would be harder to move Vazquez.
  12. Do they just crowdsource their content?
  13. That was my only point. Wong has a much higher ceiling, but we know that Catchers take longer to develop.
  14. No. I'd rather keep Vaz than downgrade at C and get a 2b. There are more than enough 2bs sitting out there in FA.
  15. And there is a concern as to why his spin rate went crazy last year. Sustainable?
  16. Of those guys, I guess Kiermaier could be ok if you are only giving up a B level prospect. Cain, Fowler, Heyward and Myers aren't really CFers anymore and I want to keep Verdugo in RF. Inciarte is a weird one for me. Offensively, his contact rate has taken a nose dive the past two years. Same with his defense. I don't see the appeal. I don't know what to think about Kingery. Seems to be more of a super utility guy than someone you just slot in for CF. There was a lot of hype for him a few years ago, but he really floundered in 2020. His contract isn't really a killer though and he has the highest upside of any of the guys you mentioned.
  17. I think I'd rather just keep Vaz unless I got bowled over with an offer. I'd probably take Flowers over Ramos, but I wouldn't sign either for more than 1 year.
  18. Sox lucked out that one of their needs matched a glut in the marketplace. Unfortunately, they still have to fill CF.
  19. It's not a need right now. It was only curious since some posters on here are quick to trade off Vaz. It's not like Plawecki would start 162.
  20. I'd sign Tanaka before Paxton/Odorizzi/Walker/Quintana. I don't know what it would take to sign Bauer, but he's probably going to be too much.
  21. I wanted them to sign Kim. They didn't. My guess is their scouts are far more knowledgeable about Kim than I am (I know that's hard for you guys to believe). Wong and Semien are both probably much better than Kim.
  22. I wanted them to sign Kim. They didn't. My guess is their scouts are far more knowledgeable about Kim than I am (I know that's hard for you guys to believe).
  23. I'm not saying he's a starter, just that he's a better bet to be a backup than Wong.
  24. Where is this great player they are avoiding signing? Bauer?
  25. Not every guy who has come over from Japan/Korea has succeeded, even ones with great pedigrees. Maybe they just didn't like him at that price?
