You can only make trades if the other teams are willing. That cost was very fair. The Marte cost was pretty high for a guy that is going to decline fast and move off 2b in a few years. HOU doesn't really need Paredes and was still trying to trade for Abreu, but the Sox were unwilling to move him. Abreu is probably the better player with more control. CHC trade seems like wishful thinking. Hoerner was going to cost too much for a one year guy who is a league average hitter. Matt Shaw is going to replace Hoerner next season at 2b. What's the play there? Trade Shaw and you don't have a 2b after this season. Trade Hoerner and you are taking a step back in a year you are trying to compete.
