  1. The real dregs IMO. Talk about running it back. A guy with no experience and is fine with being a yes man. Scary.
  2. He'll be back if they finish 5th place.
  3. It has nothing to do with "efficiency" and everything to do with "building a ballclub" to not have 2 DH's sitting on the bench in mid July.
  4. If they let Breslow go early, they'll never get anyone to take the job. They had to settle for Breslow to begin with. It'll really be the dregs next time (Amaro, Van Wagenan, Wally, etc.).
  5. Maybe they'll pull out more low scoring wins too. I think it'll be interesting to see if the actually score 2 runs or less more often than in previous years. If it was already about 30% of the time, we can anticipate about that many Gamethreads devolving into "this is Craig's fault" over and over again no matter what.
  6. The pitches that got hit around last time for Kutter were the 4 seamer and the sweeper. The movement he gets on his splitter is pretty mediocre to bad. There is no vertical drop to it. Lots of work to be done if he's going to rely on it more.
  7. It's more likely he dumps his 4 seamer for the splitter and keeps the cutter.
  8. His cutter has always had a better run value than his splitter. It'd be silly to dump it just because other pitchers have transitioned to splitters.
  9. He traded a lot of prospects, but Ben Cherington did an awful job drafting. By the time DD showed up, there wasn't really a lot left to trade away. Plus, the IFA shenanigans hurt the farm for a few years. DD trading to win a WS + a waning farm system + IFA losses = easy talking point of DD decimated the farm.
  10. They weren't going to get Schwarber because they already had a LHB at DH, two in fact, three if you count Duran.
  11. Projected bWAR or fWAR tho?
  12. Why would you ever listen to what Breslow says? I thought this was covered already in the powerpoint?
  13. 2025 Red Sox 9-40 when scoring 2 or less runs 27 times scored 1 or less runs (4 shutouts) 2024 Red Sox 4-47 when scoring 2 or less runs 31 times scored 1 or less runs (7 shutouts) We'll have to see if the Sox still have about 50 games where they score 2 or less runs or if it increases due to the roster change as some anticipate.
  14. Starting off with a banger That rib would make a great 1/1 Allen & Ginter baseball card.
  15. The only time that the Sox won a WS with a bottom 10 defense was in 2004 when they had an absolutely stacked offense. Even if they had Devers and Bregman on this roster, they weren't going to compete with the 2004 roster. This roster is built to be more dynamic and needs to play better defense. Having a backup IFer that can competently field every IF position is important when the starters include Story and Mayer on the left side (most likely). Adding a guy like Durbin who has a good approach at the plate is important when 6 of your projected '26 starters were over 24% k rate last season. I don't think it's about "accumulating WAR" either. It's about building a ballclub. That's something that things like PECOTA don't quantify very well. Good starting pitching. Good defense. Good at bats. At one point in our fandom, people wanted dirt dogs. Guess they don't anymore? They just care about homeruns and their fantasy stats.
  16. Will there be pitchers left to deal?
  17. It may happen once in a while to give Abreu a breather, but not regularly.
  18. I would doubt that even with Cole coming back from IBP. Kutter hasn't pitched in a long time. The last time he did pitch, he led the universe in HR's given up.
  19. Quibble about the "cheapskate owner" aspect, but the deal was 100% a salary dump. If not, it was a HORRIBLE trade! Embarrassing!
  20. Banda walks guys like he's Darwinzon Hernandez. Considering the pitchers Breslow had moved this offseason, I don't think he'll claim him.
  21. If they went after Alonso before Bregman, wouldn't Alonso be Plan A?
  22. The Red Sox should have made several attempts to acquire every good MIFer in the league over the offseason. That one of them was Zach Neto isn't surprising to me or makes me thinking differently of the Durbin trade.
  23. It was a salary dump. What else could you call that trade?
  24. Manny Ramirez For Jason Bay (FA Type A) Comp Pick Brandon Workman For Pivetta (QO) Comp Pick Henry Godbout
