  1. What's the point in a better rate if you play less?
  2. They are apparently named after the guardian statues on a bridge near the stadium. I guess they are locally famous? Sounds silly at first, I've seen many Clevelanders mention that it's a good change. I'll differ to them. Probably should have just gone with the Cleveland Clinics.
  3. Porcello was 19th best in fWAR from 2009 - 2020. Over 293 pitchers had over 500 innings during that time period. He's in the top 10% of those guys. I guess that's "very good."
  4. He won a CY. He was very good.
  5. His whole game looked effortless. That's why people were down on him.
  6. Earlier in his career, they were missing with his pitch mix and delivery. I think they are now just going with his more natural stuff.
  7. @SoxNotes Each of the Red Sox’ four minor league affiliates has a winning record. Worcester (37-29) Portland (42-24, 1st place, best record in AA) Greenville (35-33) Salem (40-29, 1st place) Total: 154-115 (.572)
  8. Porcello was a very good starting pitcher. JD Drew was a very good RFer. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
  9. Rafaela and Lugo will stick around for a while. For Jimenez, it's about scouts projecting where he will end up in a few years, not where he is now. Maybe he doesn't get there? Scouts loved Antoni Flores and that guy will probably be out of baseball next season.
  10. 11 starts with a GSv above 50, 8 below. As a 5th starter, he's fine. I just think I would want a guy with more upside next year.
  11. Agreed.
  12. Yes, you fix the starting lineup. You don't fret over the bench (at least as much as we do).
  13. Where's that editor when you need one?!?!?!?!?
  14. Jeter Downs now has a 614 OPS. Am I allowed to worry about this or no?
  15. No, it's not ok. We still need to complain about Cora for some reason!
  16. I somehow missed that Tyreque Reed was promoted. He's hitting 984 at POR. Reed and Granberg definitely deserved the bump to AA. Both are continuing to mash so far.
  17. FO is saying they'll sign 13-14, so maybe they do intend on going over way over slot for Green. IDK. I think it's more likely they sign 18-19 and don't get Green.
  18. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/team/boston-red-sox-111?view=statcast&nav=running&season=2021 Dalbec is faster than Kiké, Xander, Raffy, Verdugo, Arroyo...
  19. Teams only get a set amount of money to sign their draftees. The first few rounds have picks that are given a slot value. The first overall pick gives the team like 8.5M towards their slot. The Sox had 6.6M for the 4th overall pick. If a player wants over slot, you have less money to give the other picks. If you sign a guy under slot, you have more money to spend on other picks. Some guys fall because they have a high $ demand. Some guys go earlier because they’ll take under slot. For example, Jud Fabian in the 2nd round probably wants over slot because he was projected to go in the first round. Players are more likely to go back to school after being picked so they do have some leverage.
  20. Marcelo Mayer just hit one into the Red Sox bullpen. So there’s that.
  21. @alexspeier Per MLB source, Mayer is signing for slot recommendation for No 4 overall pick.
  22. Marcelo Mayer signed at slot, reportedly. Today is a good day. Let's f***ing go!
  23. That's basically slot? If they don't have to go over slot for him, they are going to sign everyone they want to.
