The Sox had an abnormally high winning % in 1 run games. It was clear that wasn't sustainable. The bats have cooled off. The pen has struggled.
I wouldn't start patting yourself on the back just yet because you said the Yanks were the best team in the division and the Jays were second best. You said the Rays would maybe have a WC chance. The Sox exceeded our expectations, but even if they go .500 the rest of the way they will have smoked yours. The "I've predicted everything that happened to this Sox team for the past 5 years" was ******** then and is ******** now.
I'm hopeful for your take, but not seeing it right now. This team isn't showing any signs of life. Beating the O's during a 14 game losing streak doesn't count.
He doesn't need to do it all, but someone at some point has to provide a spark. If it's not the new acquisition, then what's the point of bringing him in?
@ChrisCotillo
Nick Pivetta still believes the Red Sox are better than the Yankees, who swept them and passed them in the standings this week.
"Yes, they’re a good team. But we’re better and we’re going to move forward from this.”
They previously had him and he was planned to come back around this time. We thought he'd be taking over for an injured ERod/Eovaldi or for struggling Perez/Richards. They needed to add more than just say "let's go with what we already have in our organization's pipeline."
Rather than just call up Josiah Gray, the Dodgers brought in new talent. That's how you bolster the roster.
Jay Groome (SP; W): 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K (81 pitches)
Nick Yorke, 2B: 3-4, 1 3B, 3 R (891 OPS overall)
Luis Ravelo 936 OPS in AUG (IFA last year)
Miguel Bleis 956 OPS overal

Scheduling nugget that might make you feel better about Red Sox playoff chances. Of their last 39 games starting Friday, 23 are against sub .500 teams. In their most recent 39-game stretch which ends tonight, 30 were against teams over .500. 9 were against sub. 500 teams.
Who wants to end the season losing a WC game though?

Alex Cora says that game reports on Ryan Brasier suggest similar fastball/slider pitch data to last year - despite poor results (8R in 3G). ‘He’s getting close to joining the team.’
