Not really. Sox wanted to outright Rutledge to AAA, he declined and accepted FA. He signed a deal with the Rockies on 11/23. Sox selected him in the Rule 5 draft two weeks later.

Hard to say no to a guaranteed 200M. I think guys like him are just built a little different. At some point, it's not about the $$$, it's about his standing among other players. The goal is to have a certain level of contract, not to have lifetime savings.

The Sox have a long line of mediocre CFers. Damon and Ellsbury couldn't throw the ball. When I looked at JBJ, I saw a really good CF. Was he the best Sox CFer of my lifetime? Maybe, but he wasn't even the greatest CFer in his division while he was here (Kiermaier).

They could do better at literally every position. No Sox player is the single greatest player at their position.
