  1. The red sharpie was laced with amphetamines.
  2. Sure, but it doesn't go all that much further than it. There is some excess value, but it's rather immaterial.
  3. There is value to Leon. There just isn't 1.50 saved ERA value. He was a positive fWAR guy from 16-18. He had value then. Now, he has much less value because his bat is crap and his defense has taken a step back.
  4. When you have a s***** team, you can trade everything not nailed down and nobody cares. Moreland's contract ended that season. People have seen Lester/Mookie/Nomar get traded. Moreland doesn't move the needle at all.
  5. I agree that it was part of the decision.
  6. Working well with the young pitchers is not the same as trying to win ballgames.
  7. Actually... he was drafted first because he was a great talent who signed $1.9M UNDER SLOT.
  8. He stinks and the Marlins stink. What's the big deal? It's not like he's getting that run on a good team.
  9. If they didn't want to be competitive, why would they ever trade for Ottavino? While I don't think the other deals move the meter too much, giving salary relief to the Yanks to bolster the pen would make no sense if they didn't want to win.
  10. @SoxNotes Rafael Devers leads the majors with 180 XBH since the start of 2019. Devers has 249 career XBH. He would become only the 41st player since 1900 to reach 250 XBH before turning 25 years old, and only the 3rd Red Sox player to do so (Ted Williams & Bobby Doerr). LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP!
  11. Another negative fWAR guy.
  12. Still a negative fWAR guy. Not good.
  13. He'll probably just grab another glove first retread this offseason. They are a dime a dozen.
  14. He can't hit, but he's marginally better than Santana and Cordero.
  15. He's only ashen face because Bloom ate a lot of garlic for lunch.
  16. He stated that he wasn't going to go over so...
  17. I think if he wanted to tear it down, he would have. I think he wants to compete and add from the farm. He wants to minimize the roller coaster we've seen since 99.
  18. If the prices were that high though, why not take advantage and continue to add pieces for the future?
  19. Agreed. The prices did seem a little steeper than normal. I'd rather they punt instead of cratering their organization for a flawed MLB team.
  20. How many times have we heard something similar recently? This is the death rattle of their playoff chances.
  21. It's a legitimate concern. As Vaz ages, his production will crater. Who will take his place? Wong isn't there. Plawecki doesn't seem to be the guy. Other options on the farm: Ronaldo Hernandez AA - hits the ball a ton (had a great July, but has been not great otherwise), but is a poor catcher Kole Cottam AA - most likely an up and down 3rd Catcher role Jaxx Groshans A+ - bat first, glove second guy Jonathan Diaz A - tools to be an MLB guy, but is years and years away Nathan Hickey FCL - similar to Hernandez and Groshans above, maybe moved off C to 1b or 3b While there are more intriguing guys in the org today than a few years ago, it's a whole lot of question marks who really aren't going to be knocking on the door in 2022 and maybe not even in 2023. I wonder if they end up extending Vaz at some point.
  22. The results have not been great. Well, I thought this team would be about an 86 win team. They started off ahead and are now cooling off. Maybe they wind up around 86 wins. I think many people here would have been happy at that on 4/1. To me, if you're in first place at the deadline, you have to go for it. You aren't guaranteed that positioning over the next few years. Trying to be cute about the lux tax is going to get them in trouble.
  23. At least they are just ripping the bandaid off quickly and not waiting for September.
  24. Bloom should have traded away assets at the deadline.
  25. If the pen doesn’t come around, it won’t matter if they make the WC.
