  1. He had two pitching appearances for Greensboro. He was drafted straight out of HS, so there aren't any college stats to fall back on.
  2. Weird that Law has Lugo at 9 and SoxProspects has him at 28. That's a huge disparity. I don't think any other scouting report has him that high in the org. Someone that Law is talking too must be really high on him.
  3. 958 OPS last year in 105 AB's.
  4. Owners presented a floor at one point. Not sure where it stands currently.
  5. Hoskins and Bohm. Both are RHB. Both can play 1b. I don't think he's a starter. I think he could sneak onto that roster as a bench bat.
  6. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/24/houston-astros-jeff-luhnow-jim-crane-tanking Astros are the worst organization in professional sports.
  7. You don't typically keep things like that in your back pocket. I think it shows that some of the smaller teams wield an oversized amount of power.
  8. I just wish there were better things to chat about. Would Paplebon have made more in his career if he was left as a starter? He had 3 pitches. Could he have been a serviceable 3rd starter?
  9. It's what they "should" do. It's not what happens in reality. If you're 20 games out at the deadline, sell everything not nailed down. If you trot out a AAAA roster on 4/1, go to the firing squad.
  10. Yes, he left the door open. Sox brass wanted to stick it out with him and it worked out.
  11. Certainly true. Desperate Dave would rather claw to 3rd place than trot out a roster that will get a top pick.
  12. @JeffPassan Pitchers and catchers were supposed to report today.
  13. The first line comes directly from moon's post #489?
  14. "The cap does not hurt the vast majority of players." "It hurts everyone as it artificially deflates salaries." "I never said it didn't."
  15. It made more sense for the Sox to stick it out with Dalbec and have him turn it around after his early season struggles. Seemed like that worked.
  16. Keith Law just released his prospect report for the Sox. He has Winckowski outside the top 25. He has Lugo ahead of Blaze Jordan. I think this guy has passed his best by date.
  17. @JeffPassan Currently, teams can roster 180 domestic minor league players. The league is seeking the ability for the commissioner’s office to reduce it to “below 150" but could add to the number, too. Right now, sources said, two teams have fewer than 150 while five teams have more than 180. While the MLBPA represents only major leaguers, it does bargain for a number of amateur/minor league issues. Among those: the draft. The union in July proposed a 20-round draft, something that the league accepted, one of the few points on which they've agreed during negotiations.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if he never makes it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a role player for a few years. If his glove was better, he'd have a more clear path. He's probably 50/50 on making an MLB appearance with the Phillies. That's better than what it was for the Sox.
  19. It affects everyone.
  20. @JeffPassan Major League Baseball asked for the ability to eliminate hundreds of minor league playing jobs in its latest labor proposal, sources told ESPN. The league would not be allowed to implement the plan until after 2022. It only takes $2.5M to pay payroll for all of an org's MiLB players.
  21. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/projecting-seiya-suzuki/ Projected in a neutral park, ZiPS has Suzuki as a better-than-league-average corner outfielder but one who projects below All-Star levels without another step forward. ZiPS suggests a five-year, $83 million contract for Suzuki, though some of that wouldn’t be part of his contract, with a chunk instead going to the Carp as a posting fee. Where might Suzuki land? He makes a lot of sense for the Boston Red Sox, so it’s no shock that the rumor mill has repeatedly connected him to the Beantowners. You don’t need to go further than our Depth Charts to see the wisdom of this for Boston; currently, we have two-thirds of their outfield primarily covered by a combination of Jackie Bradley Jr., Jarren Duran, Christin Stewart, and Rob Refsnyder. It strikes me as implausible that the Red Sox won’t make further additions prior to Opening Day; if they don’t, it’ll be much to their regret in a stacked American League East.
  22. It hurts everyone as it artificially decreases salaries across the board.
  23. He could make the MLB as a platoon bat. Aside from his reverse split last season, he mashed RHP pretty well in AAA for a few years. He just doesn't have a fit here with Casas in the pipeline. The Phillies don't have an exceptionally deep roster, especially for LHB. If MLB does add the DH, it may clear a little more wiggle room for a guy like Ockimey to fit in somewhere.
  24. The problem with Duran is that he kept tweaking his swing when he was in the majors. He just has to pick a swing and stick with it. The red flags with Downs are a bit brighter. He's teetering on heading down that post prospect path.
  25. @josh_ock Excited to announce that I’ve signed with the Philadelphia Phillies! Thrilled to have the opportunity to play for the organization of my hometown. Looking forward to this year ⚾️
