  1. @redsoxstats According to the Miami Herald, the Red Sox thought they had a trade done for Pirates catcher Jacob Stallings, but the Marlins sweetened their offer to get him. Very interesting.
  2. @KyleAGlaser Just got it confirmed: As a result of the lockout, there will be no major league portion of the Rule 5 draft. There will still be a minor league Rule 5 draft.
  3. Joc Pederson (self proclaimed King Joctober)
  4. Just nod your head and move along. This will all blow over shortly.
  5. Agree for everything except that last part.
  6. 283 is an obvious outlier due to the shortened season that year. The real question is 267 vs 163. I want to say I'm 50/50 on which one he could do one more time. However, if you look into his stats, he struggled with the heat. Is that an affect of getting older? Maybe. Some players have said in the past that there is a difference between pitching in the NL and pitching in the AL (i.e. fastball vs offspeed league). I'm not sure if that's still the case. I don't really see him hitting 163 this year, but honestly didn't watch any Brewers games last year, so maybe he's really just straight garbage.
  7. It's always just speculation on our part. To me, Bloom has made some really curious decisions. He punted on the 2020 season and wound up getting the #1 prospect for it. He stayed under the luxury tax cap in 2021, made decisions that were often confusing, but it worked out. At this point, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt, at least a little bit. Until the moves start blowing up in his face, it's hard for me to say he doesn't know what he's doing.
  8. Right now, the offseason is an unfinished product. Hard to really rate this move until we know the roster.
  9. Sucking up to whom? It's not like Bloom would read this board. Hard to suck up to someone who doesn't know you exist.
  10. $11M is a lot for some prospects unless you're really really high on one of them.
  11. I think Hunter isn't as good as he was last year and I don't think JBJ is as bad as he was last year. However, I think Hunter is better than JBJ. Do the 2 prospects even it out? Time will tell.
  12. If they brought Schwarber in, the OF depth chart would look like: Verdugo L Kiké R JBJ L Schwarber L Duran L I'm not sold on Schwarber being a great fit (especially now that 10M is going to JBJ).
  13. This makes more sense than 1/10.
  14. There was a legit chance that they were going to non tender Renfroe at 7.6M. Instead of non tendering him, they moved him for JBJ and got two decent MiLB prospects. Seems ok? I wasn't high on Renfroe to begin with so it just doesn't move the meter for me. It's a weird deal, but I'm not going to get upset over it. Things like RBI are fickle because it depends on players around you. Renfroe is fine, but he's not really a lynchpin for this team.
  15. If the trade really just swaps Arroyo for JBJ, I'm not sure I'm all that concerned.
  16. We talked about the OF all last offseason and we never figured out where we'd end up. We may have the same confusion this year. Just don't sign Marwin.
  17. Where were all the Hunter Renfroe stans when he was OPSing 485 on 5/1 last year?
  18. Yes. They like those players, but not for that length of time.
  19. Maybe they don't like those players?
  20. BTV: Renfroe 1.6 Binelas 4.9 (approximates Winckowski value) Hamilton 5.4 (in between Winckowski and Mata value) JBJ -12.8 Moderate overpay Although one side of this trade is giving up more than they should, there is still a reasonable probability it would be accepted if each team’s needs are met.
  21. JBJ was always streaky and there is a chance that the slump doesn't go away at some point.
  22. I agree. There is a lot of talk in the media that another move is coming and that JBJ is a 4th OFer. He's an expensive OFer one at that, but if the Sox are unconcerned about the luxury tax then we shouldn't be either.
