  1. MLB Trade Rumors doesn't break news. They are just a news aggregator. They are only as reliable as whatever tweet they are getting their info from.
  2. They drafted him for minor league depth. They have no obligation to put him on the 40 man/active roster like they did with Whitlock.
  3. Also, the picks are less valuable in MLB since you cannot trade them.
  4. I don't believe the problem is as rampant in MLB. The teams that are at the bottom are trying to rebuild, but it's hardly ever going to be turned around by one draft selection. I don't think MLB's draft is comparable to NBA or NFL. Picks are almost always years away from helping a team. The difference in pick #1 and pick #2 is usually miniscule. With NBA and NFL, there are typically standout players that teams are trying to actually tank for. In MLB, teams are tanking to save money, not to acquire a certain pick in the draft.
  5. I've heard from multiple sources that the initial error was calling it "cancelled" when it was truly just "postponed."
  6. @jjcoop36 And I'm hearing that the MLB Rule 5 draft is expected to take place soon after whenever the lockout ends/new CBA is agreed to. So two Rule 5 drafts, one offseason. Here we go. ^ The Editor in Chief of Baseball America
  7. MLB proposed an NBA-style lottery with lowest 3 teams. Players want lowest 8 teams. Seems like some sort of lottery system for the draft will be put into place. I'm fine with it being somewhere from 3 - 8 teams in a lottery. I just don't want it to be a lottery like the NBA where every non playoff team gets a chance for a high pick. I really don't see a big issue with the current practice though.
  8. I would say it's rare that they mattered, but fairly likely that they make AAA at some point in their career.
  9. Ort was in AAA last season. Keller spent the previous 2 years in AAA. Lambright is an injury reclamation project. Not sure how much he's thrown or when he'll be ready.
  10. The current backup has a career 75 WRC+ and I bet Iggy's glove is at least as good. Iggy's coming to be the backup. Arroyo will still be the starting 2b until he reaches the IL on 5/1.
  11. There's no incentive to getting anything done until February. They are going to drag this process out for a while. I'm not sure it will impact Opening Day. I would guess that offseason begins again around 2/15.
  12. Heyman is the least reliable source in the business.
  13. Yes, they didn't struggle to the finish line in 2018.
  14. I think Bell prefers air that is a little thicker and dank.
  15. I can't say I was overly impressed with Davis or Robles.
  16. I don't see how their performance in 2022 - 2023 should matter.
  17. Which means there is more of an impetus to maintain 1st place. Needed to further strengthen their position by Sept 1.
  18. What about "rolled into?" That can also be a decent weed analogy?
  19. No. No MLB deals can be agreed upon, only MiLB deals. His signing period was put on a freeze. I believe he will have 20 days after the CBA is signed to find a team before he is returned.
  20. "Playoffs are a crapshoot." They were in first place. It was a year to go for it.
  21. Sox were in first place at the deadline. They could have gone over the luxury tax limit, but intentionally did not. There isn't much indication that they will definitely NOW go over.
