  1. https://www.si.com/mlb/rangers/game-day/texas-colorado-rockies-home-opener-controversial-slide-rule-mitch-garver#gid=ci029e7957e00026ec&pid=usatsi_18068977 “The rule states that the runner sliding into second base has to maintain possession of the base," crew chief Bill Miller said in the Pool Report. "This runner did not maintain possession of the base. And he not only did not maintain possession, he came off the base and made contact with the fielder above the knee. That constitutes a violation on two terms." Miller added, “I’ve never had a game end like this. And it’s the first time I’ve been announcing over the PA system. So, it’s all new to us. It’s an unfortunate way to lose, but those are the rules.” Over the PA, the ump said "there was a slide rule violation, the runner at 2nd base is out, the runner at 1st base is out." It would have been nicer if he had stated the possession of the bag and contact above the knee over the PA.
  2. Renfroe: 1 for 14, 2 BB, 5 K, 0 RBI for the RBI king
  3. It will be for a balanced schedule.
  4. AKA a Pablo Sandoval's stomach worth of injury jokes.
  5. Not when I created the thread and the discussion.
  6. I'm not sure what the point is on trying to be his psychotherapist from 1,500 miles away. There's lots of "I think Henry believes" or "I think Henry feels" statements, but we don't really have his actual thoughts put to paper. All we hear are thoughts from Bloom or Sam Kennedy about creating a strong organization that can compete year in and year out. Aside from not trading prospects away, it doesn't really say much about payroll implications. We know Henry has taken on some big contracts, but have eschewed others. Why sign Price, but not Lester? Why sign JD and Story, but let Betts go. Is he deliberately staying away from the 300M threshold? We don't really know. We don't know how they evaluate these MLB guys and what there thought process is.
  7. I think he stays until they are ready to bring up some of their younger arms. Zack Kelly should be the first guy called up and he throws hard. Feltman should get his chance at some point this year. Maybe we see Mata in the pen towards the end of the season down the stretch?
  8. I think Pablo would just be a better hang too.
  9. At some point, I'm not sure 3 $10M guys always add up to a $30M guy. Unless we are talking about extensions to younger in house guys. The drop off from top tier to second tier in FA is usually pretty steep.
  10. 934 OPS in AA/AAA last season. He'll be interesting to follow.
  11. No Monday MiLB games to report on.
  12. Seems to be. I don't know why we focus on it so much here.
  13. I have a black hole in my memory for the teams that lost in the first round. I really don't remember much of 16 or 17.
  14. I was actively ignoring the new playoff structure and really didn't know how it was set up. After digesting it for 30 seconds: If you are the "third place" division winner and lose in the Wild Card round, it's not a success. You have homefield for the full WC best of 3 series and would be losing to a runner up. If you win the WC round to get to the LCS, but lose the LCS can it be a success? Sure. Fine. It definitely waters down the playoffs though.
  15. IDK, I think I'd rather have Pablo over for dinner than Sale. Pablo would eat a lot, but Sale would just pick at his food.
  16. Personally, I would have signed the Syndergaard and Suzuki deals. I would have passed on adding Paxton and either Hill or Wacha. It comes down to what the long term plan is. If Raffy and Xander still walk out the door, I can't say I'll be happy about the lack of spending.
  17. Any Sox team that wins a playoff series can consider their season a success. I consider the 1999 team to be a success. I consider the 2005 team to be a failure. I consider the 2008 team to be a success. I consider the 2009 team to be a failure. Now, if they win the WC game to get to the playoffs but lose the first series? I don't know how I'd feel.
  18. He started off last year 2 for 21. I'm not worried.
  19. The worst player isn't the same as the worst contract.
  20. If he waits until the deadline, will there be enough time in the season to get the number down? Also, with the new CBA, is the luxury tax the handcuff it used to be?
  21. So far for JBJ: 0 for 9, 1 BB, 1 K Not getting hits isn't ideal, but I can't complain about the 10% k rate. He's not looking completely lost out there.
  22. Grebeck definitely is in the discussion.
  23. Seems like a better fit in RF.
  24. Suzuki's OPS is 1145 higher than JBJ's.
  25. I agree on this one for sure. Seemed like a good fit?
