  1. Other leagues don't have restrictions where most players can't reach FA until they are 29.
  2. It in effect creates a real cap. That's a no to the players.
  3. The owners believe one of their significant concessions is backing off a proposal that would punish any team that went over the lux cap with draft pick penalties in year 1. Laughable.
  4. @AdamRubinMedia I’ll say this and then stop: The Mets told me a looong time ago, before anything like this was public, that they tried to help him, as did his agent. So they weren’t willfully blind to what was going on because they were getting performance.
  5. I've heard that some people use certain strains of weed to concentrate. Maybe oxy was just used to be less stressed out? IDK. Was never my thing. When I was given a prescription for it, I just gave it away.
  6. At least we aren't Angels fans today. @TJQuinnESPN Harvey says he tried oxycodone in 2019. Got it from Tyler Skaggs. Didn't like how it felt. Harvey says he shared Percocets with Skaggs. "He had asked me... if I had anything and I think I said I had" either Percocet or oxy at the time. Harvey: Skaggs asked him for pills before a couple of road trips in June '19. Including one where he said he wanted oxy to feel "loosey goosey" before a start. Harvey says in June 30 2019, the day the Angels flew to Texas, he found out last minute he wasn't going. Was upset to miss out and hid from other players. Says he discussed getting a blue oxy from Kay, Kay put it in his locker. Didn't take it that day. Next day He woke and heard about Skaggs. Before he heard cause of death, he threw out the blue pill, afraid something would happen to him. Harvey says he used in clubhouse and dugout. Skaggs told him he crushed and snorted oxy on the toilet paper dispenser in the clubhouse bathroom.
  7. Someone asked the question about Lugo vs Blaze. He said "huge value in a shortstop vs 1b." I get it, but I'm not sure I believe that Lugo can be an everyday SS at MLB level. I don't believe he has an Andrelton Simmons glove. He's performing worse with the bat than Simmons did at his age. IDK. I just don't see it with Lugo. I agree with the argument, but not the player.
  8. He had two pitching appearances for Greensboro. He was drafted straight out of HS, so there aren't any college stats to fall back on.
  9. Weird that Law has Lugo at 9 and SoxProspects has him at 28. That's a huge disparity. I don't think any other scouting report has him that high in the org. Someone that Law is talking too must be really high on him.
  10. 958 OPS last year in 105 AB's.
  11. Owners presented a floor at one point. Not sure where it stands currently.
  12. Hoskins and Bohm. Both are RHB. Both can play 1b. I don't think he's a starter. I think he could sneak onto that roster as a bench bat.
  13. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/24/houston-astros-jeff-luhnow-jim-crane-tanking Astros are the worst organization in professional sports.
  14. You don't typically keep things like that in your back pocket. I think it shows that some of the smaller teams wield an oversized amount of power.
  15. I just wish there were better things to chat about. Would Paplebon have made more in his career if he was left as a starter? He had 3 pitches. Could he have been a serviceable 3rd starter?
  16. It's what they "should" do. It's not what happens in reality. If you're 20 games out at the deadline, sell everything not nailed down. If you trot out a AAAA roster on 4/1, go to the firing squad.
  17. Yes, he left the door open. Sox brass wanted to stick it out with him and it worked out.
  18. Certainly true. Desperate Dave would rather claw to 3rd place than trot out a roster that will get a top pick.
  19. @JeffPassan Pitchers and catchers were supposed to report today.
  20. The first line comes directly from moon's post #489?
  21. "The cap does not hurt the vast majority of players." "It hurts everyone as it artificially deflates salaries." "I never said it didn't."
  22. It made more sense for the Sox to stick it out with Dalbec and have him turn it around after his early season struggles. Seemed like that worked.
  23. Keith Law just released his prospect report for the Sox. He has Winckowski outside the top 25. He has Lugo ahead of Blaze Jordan. I think this guy has passed his best by date.
  24. @JeffPassan Currently, teams can roster 180 domestic minor league players. The league is seeking the ability for the commissioner’s office to reduce it to “below 150" but could add to the number, too. Right now, sources said, two teams have fewer than 150 while five teams have more than 180. While the MLBPA represents only major leaguers, it does bargain for a number of amateur/minor league issues. Among those: the draft. The union in July proposed a 20-round draft, something that the league accepted, one of the few points on which they've agreed during negotiations.
  25. I wouldn't be surprised if he never makes it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a role player for a few years. If his glove was better, he'd have a more clear path. He's probably 50/50 on making an MLB appearance with the Phillies. That's better than what it was for the Sox.
