  1. I still think Arauz is on the potential DFA track. He just hasn't improved enough to keep him on the 40 man. You can sign up a few similar players on MiLB deals and have more flexibility with your roster.
  2. I thought you were worried about that horse lying there?
  3. When Bogey and/or Raffy leave: Poster 1: Sox didn't give him/them a competitive offer! Poster 2: Sure they did! Poster 3: They gave him/them an offer, but it wasn't a REAL offer. They knew he/they wouldn't take it. It was just for the fans. Poster 2: It was the offer the best offer they wanted to make. Poster 1: They should have given a more competitive offer. Poster 4: But they couldn't! It would have messed up their budget. Poster 5: And what would happen if there was an injury? Older players just break down. That's going to be about 3 years of a drain on the payroll. He'll/they'll only be worth if for the first 5 years. Poster 6: Or not. Mod: Poster 6 is now banned.
  4. Weird to see Dalbec as a SS there, but in both occasions it was a couple of innings in a blowout loss. I didn't catch any of the games where Dalbec or Devers were off their normal position.
  5. And he's only a topic of discussion because there are no other moves to talk about right now.
  6. We still litigate the Lester contract offer. I look forward to talking about Mookie for the next 10 years. It's going to go well and we will definitely come to a conclusion and sway people to all agree about what were the true intentions of Mookie, Mookie's mom and Red Sox Management.
  7. I think expecting ZERO injuries is foolhardy. You just don't want the injuries to become chronic.
  8. Yes, it would have been nicer if the conversation didn't head in that direction AGAIN.
  9. And there is a very famous picture of him wearing a Sox tshirt in high school.
  10. This is exactly the "depth" that Bloom keeps talking about. Have someone competent that can fill in when needed. You can't rely on guys like Jack Lopez.
  11. Anyone on an MiLB deal is a good gamble IMO. But yes, 100%. If there's an injury, you can do much worse than calling up a slick fielding guy who hits 9th.
  12. They could also go the trade route to get a big name rather than relying on FA's. Pedro Schilling Beckett AGon Sale
  13. I think Harper is a little overrated due to his 2015 season at age 22. Since then, his only great season was last year at 6.6 fWAR. His in a tier below Betts IMO. Manny is probably in the Harper tier if not a tier below that. Guys who would be in the Mookie tier: Trout Vlad Jr Soto Jose Ramirez Tatis Judge if he stays healthy Ohtani Acuna Guys that could get there: Bo Bichette Wander
  14. Betts 2021: 131 WRC+ 6th in RF fWAR If he gets his speed back next season, he'll put up numbers like he used to (2018 may be that "career year" though). He would have been top 3 for the Sox and was more valuable than Verdugo and Renfore combined.
  15. He was injured last season. Guys don't typically drop off at 28. Maybe the rest of his career is marred by injury, maybe this was just a blip? Even for falling off, he had a 3.9 fWAR season.
  16. And yet, he signed for somewhere in the middle. Like that's how negotiations work.
  17. I can't speak for Sox ownership. I think Mookie was worth 300M. Not many in the league better than he was at the time he signed.
  18. He's not what he was back when he first came up. However, maybe his UZR/150 was just down last year? Maybe he can bounce back and have a solid season? It's not unheard of.
  19. He's played there sparingly and has shown a lack of range. He's good at 2b and 3b. I really think he's just MiLB depth. If Arroyo goes down and Downs is struggling, you can keep Kiké in CF and put Yolmer at 2b.
  20. RIP Jeremy Giambi
  21. Luis Robert
  22. I'm fine with 300M contracts, but not for Correa.
  23. I don't think it precludes the signing of Iggy. Yolmer is only on a MiLB contract and had no MLB appearances last season. Fine for injury depth and probably better than Arauz.
  24. Looks fine on paper. Tying all that future $$$ up in Correa seems like a bad investment. It's a move you make if you're 86 years into a curse that you need to get rid of, but not when you've been averaging a ring every 5 years.
