    @redsoxstats Verdugo is absolutely mashing the ball so far, only 5 ground balls and with now 10 hard hit line drives/fly balls.

    Maybe the Sox can get more runs the next time through the order. Apparently, a lot of this pitcher's value comes from his arm slot that causes batters to swing underneath his FB (see: Story). His secondary pitches aren't great, so maybe they can adjust.

    @IanMBrowne Pivetta averaged 92.5 on his fastball today and topped out at 94. Last year, he averaged 94.8. Not great!

    If Xander signs an extension and struggles or gets hurt, it's a net positive for him. If Xander signs an extension but plays like an MVP this season, it's a net negative for him. If Xander doesn't sign an extension and struggles or gets hurt, he just doesn't opt out and it is no change to his current position. If Xander doesn't sign an extension and plays like an MVP this season, he'll get a monster deal in FA and it's a net positive for him. The only risky avenue is him signing an extension and providing play that exceeds his contract.
