  1. Hard to really say what the modern trend is just yet. Snell being pulled from the WS was less than 2 years ago.
  2. 1982 - 168.1 innings, no starts 1983 - 145.1 innings, no starts
  3. Richards and Ottavino aren't "under the radar" guys. I'm not going to go through all of Tampa's transactions under Bloom. Of course not "all" of his additions with the Rays would do well, but they have been known for finding reclamation projects that worked out.
  4. Binelas will be top 20 on May 1. I think Hamilton should leapfrog some of those guys ahead of him too. I think the reason they are further down is that they hadn't really been scouted by SoxProspects due to COVID and the crackdown on scouting this offseason (due to Rule 5 draft issues).
  5. Chad Green led all relievers with 83.2 IP last year. Eichhorn in 1986 pitched 150 innings with no GS. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/mark-eichhorn/1003712/game-log?position=P&gds=&gde=&type=0&season=1986
  6. With how MLB is going, it wouldn't be surprising to have some bullpen guys start to get 6-7 innings a week and have seasons of 150 IP. Instead of throwing 6 once a turn in the rotation, they'd be throwing 3 innings twice. Would that save some arms?
  7. Sale was very diminished last year. I'm not sure what he'll be coming back this year after another injury. Paxton has only pitched 21.2 innings the since 1/1/20. I can't project what he'll do this year. He may not even have an appearance, or he could just be a force down the stretch. Too much variability with him.
  8. The under the radar guys that worked out: Valdez - maybe? He stunk last year. Whitlock Sawamura Robles Rios The under the radar guys that didn't work out: Davis Crawford Andriese Workman - return of Brice Weber Brewer Springs Osich Covey Kickham Stock It's hard to rate the 2022 guys just yet. The list is loaded with the garbage pile from 2020. It remains to be seen if the 2022 looks like last year's pen or the year prior.
  9. Yup. I think he could get to 6 innings by midseason for sure.
  10. Me too. They still most likely lose though.
  11. 2020 had preinjury Mata, preinjury Ward, Song, Houck, Aldo Ramirez and Groome. 2013 had Owens, De La Rosa, Webster, Ranaudo, Workman and Barnes. We know how it turned out, but those were some decent prospects. 2006 was the peak of Papelbon, Lester, Hansen, Delcarmen, Buchholz, Bowden, Alvarez.
  12. I agree. The Sox never led in the game. The offense was supposed to carry this team. It has not done so yet. I just think the bullpen seems like an afterthought and I don't see the plan to fix it.
  13. So the question is, why can the Rays have a decent pen with lots of reclamation projects, but the Sox have seemed to fall short in the area the past 3 seasons?
  14. 4/26 Trade Update: Alex Binelas 21 - Greenville 6 HR, 1.149 OPS David Hamilton 24 - Portland 3 HR, 10 SB, .985 OPS JBJ - 3 R, 0 HR, 5 RBI, 83 WRC+, 609 OPS, 13.7% BB, 21.6% K, 0 DRS, 0.3 fWAR Renfroe - 5 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 94 WRC+, 678 OPS, 6.5% BB, 30.6% K, -1 DRS, 0.1 fWAR No regrets yet.
  15. Maybe they are relying on the additional playoff slots this year?
  16. We're just seeing this team stumble out of the gates. Last year we did the opposite and slowed down in August. Maybe we can do the reverse this year.
  17. I'd rather have Whitlock start a game and give them a chance rather then see him languish in the pen as the Sox fall behind early.
  18. Eovaldi had just given up a HR to Chapman. The next group of batters was NOT the top of the order. It was feared Tapia/Espinal/Zimmer combo. If Eovaldi comes in and gets 3 outs, he probably is still done after the 8th. He's NEVER pitched in the 9th inning of any game that he started before. At that point, you'd still have the pen going up against the heart of the order and I'm not sure how pretty it would have been.
  19. I have a reasonable expectation that the GM should be able to construct a competent bullpen. Especially since the Rays have always seemed to have a decent pen.
  20. Also, it's Wikelman now. It's not Winkelman or Wilkelman as SoxProspects had it.
  21. I think Groome will still make it at the back end of some MLB rotation. Maybe not ours. You also forgot the other W, Winckowski. I'd put him up with the 3 you mentioned. Mata and Ward are question marks coming off surgery. Murphy is probably a bullpen arm.
  22. @PeteAbe Kevin Plawecki has rejoined the Sox.
  23. I am 0-2 this season, so I hope nobody is waiting on me to make a game thread.
  24. @ChrisCotillo Kutter Crawford and Tanner Houck are the only Red Sox going to the restricted list (unvaccinated). Tyler Danish and John Schreiber called up.
  25. I aim to please all my constituents.
