  1. Um, that's exactly what Detroit did. DD hired before 2002 season. World Series appearance in 2006. Better run of success later on 2011-2014. How are you so bad at this?
  2. I vaguely remember the media blaming the Fielder contract on ownership at the time, but...
  3. What farm pieces did he trade to get the 2006 WS team? That was your assertion! Or were you just making s*** up?
  4. I thought that's where my mlb.tv money went?
  5. The Cabrera contract and the Fielder contract were the two items that can come under suspicion. However, he played a large role in turning that org around. He just couldn't get them over the top and give them a good bullpen.
  6. He "traded everything away" but was able to be in 2nd place or better in 7 of 9 years? 9 years! Traded EVERYTHING away? C'mon... The Tigers had Scherzer, Verlander, Cabrera... Who was traded away when you look at the 2006 squad? Most of it was homegrown guys! https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/DET/2006.shtml The big moves were all Free Agents (Rogers/Ordonez/Rodriguez), not trades? Like where do you come up with this stuff??? Look at the roster. Who was the important guy that they traded for? Which prospect did they trade for the 2006 team???
  7. Whatever is the slowest.
  8. Update: @hgomez27 Can confirm. The Red Sox's offer is expected to nearly double the initial offer we reported on April 6, which was rejected by Rafael Devers. As reported by @YancenPujols , there's talk of a contract extension of at least 7 guaranteed years. So 7/200ish?
  9. He rebuilt the Tigers from nothing and kept them in contention for the majority of the 13 years he was there even though it included 4 years of rebuilding at the beginning. Tigers 2003 - AL Record 119 Loses Tigers 2006 - AL Pennant C'mon man...
  10. You see, JBJ has a really good glove and there's no way that his bat is going to be as horrible as it was in 2021. That was an aberration! You're talking about ALCS MVP JBJ!
  11. Don't give the keys to your teenage son and then get mad when he crashes your nice car.
  12. Sale is off after 2024. Barnes is off after 2023. Whitlock and Story are the only current long term contracts besides those two. They pay Manny and Pedey about 4-5M every year through 2026.
  13. They could have just nontendered Renfroe and been better off.
  14. And he was ok with paying 12 for Bradley because 7 for Renfroe was too much!
  15. IDK, Texas grabbed Semien AND Seager last season. It just takes one owner to want to take their club out of irrelevancy. These people have the money, they just don't always want to spend it. I think Diaz is the LEAST likely FA for the Sox. That guy isn't leaving NY.
  16. Yeah, that's why my last sentence was "If there weren't restrictions on going over the luxury tax, I think the Sox payroll would be much higher compared to other teams."
  17. In 2021, weren't they already in 1st place. In 2022, they were well out of contention.
  18. Yuck.
  19. Well, I was obviously right because I wanted a fire sale even before the season started. They shouldn't have been a below .500 team though.
  20. I'm not talking about being in 6th place where they are now, but up where the Mets are.
  21. It's the exact same scenario every team wants to do. That's why it's really impossible to do it all through free agency, because you are competing with other clubs that will offer more money to one of two of the guys that you want.
  22. I saw a media source in the DR state that the Sox have reached out to him about a 7 year extension and want it done soon.
  23. That was the real stinker this season. Like why go over? It was a sinking ship!
  24. And they probably didn't dump JD, Eovaldi and others at the deadline as they saw a negative impact on the cash flow in 2012 and 2014 when they did something similar. Maybe that's why they half assed it?
  25. Owners get about $110M just from tv rights before they even open the gates to the stadium. With NESN, the Sox haul in far more than that. The Sox are definitely not hurting for cash. If there weren't restrictions on going over the luxury tax, I think the Sox payroll would be much higher compared to other teams.
