  1. Last year SP: BOS 8.6 fWAR TEX 5.8 fWAR FanGraphs projects: Heaney 2.5 DeGrom 5.5 Eovaldi 2.3 Perez 1.8 Gray 2.5 Total 14.6 Sale 2.9 Bello 1.5 (half year) Whitlock 1.9 Pivetta 1.4 Kluber 1.6 Paxton 1.3 Total 10.6 fWAR Clearly, TEX needed to spend to fix their rotation. We'll see if the money was spent well.
  2. Grady Sizemore?
  3. In terms of Sale's contract: 2025 Vesting Option ($5M deferred to 2040) vests with a Top 10 finish in 2024 Cy Young + healthy 2025 Option Escalator (2023, 2024 Cy Young) $2.5M for 1st $1.5M for 2nd or 3rd $1M for 4th or 5th $500,000 for 6th-10th His luxury tax salary for 2025 is currently listed as 29M.
  4. Sale and Paxton are due for late career bounceback seasons!
  5. With Pivetta's ARB projection, the Sox are at about 51M for their rotation, which probably includes Bello instead of Paxton anyway. The Rangers are at 100M. Is it twice as good as the Sox rotation?
  6. And if they had signed JBJ to an Ozzie Albies deal after 2016, we still wouldn't have regretted it.
  7. Agree. They need to start locking up Bello, Casas and anyone else that their scouting has determined will be a long time contributor. Waiting until arb raise time is a bad decision. It should be done after their first or second full MLB season. They still should extend Devers though.
  8. The frustration most people feel is that the roster still doesn't feel filled. What is the solution at SS? What is the solution at RF? Will the SP hold up? Will they extend Devers? People generally had little confidence in Bloom to begin with so when the bottom predictably fell out at the end of the winter meetings, everyone was ready to pounce.
  9. Timeline for future potential starters: Mata - ready now, but better suited for bullpen role IMO Walter - mid-2023 if healthy Murphy - mid-2023 if he can continue to get LHB out Drohan - 2024, swingman or relief profile Wikelman - 2025 Perales - 2025 Uberstine - 2025, swingman or relief profile ERC - 2026 Paez - 2026 Aside from Mata, the remaining impact arms don't show up until 2025/2026. The only way to get one sooner would be through trade.
  10. Why reset? Didn't they already reset in 2020 and 2021?
  11. Sure it might be good. It's also likely to see Heaney ineffective and/or injured. Perez should return to his mediocre past. Eovaldi will pitch about 130 innings. Gray was whatever last year and also struggles to pitch 150 innings. DeGrom could bring a CY? Would that be enough to get to the playoffs?
  12. If they had extended Benintendi it would have probably been at pretty reasonable dollars. As long as the prospect doesn't completely bust, it's generally worth the risk. Beni would have been fine to extend. With JBJ, we had already seen a VERY volatile bat. Even though he had a great 2016, he was a rollercoaster afterwards (and it wasn't a much better picture before). The 850 OPS for JBJ occurred exactly NEVER. He never had a season where he OPS'd 840.
  13. Rangers also signed Andrew Heaney. Their rotation is stacked with question marks. DeGrom Eovaldi Perez Heaney Gray Odorizzi (swingman) Yikes. That's a rotation that FA can buy you.
  14. JBJ and Beni are in a tier below.
  15. He'd platoon with Rojas and Story? It's not my idea. It's something I've heard that the Sox FO have been looking for. They are looking for LHB MIFers apparently. Wendle would be an upgrade over Arroyo regardless and has played the OF before and was ok out there.
  16. IDK, I think I may becoming Matt Lugo-pilled. Send them Brandon Walter instead who has the same value.
  17. Fine by me. I'd do that trade and wouldn't mind. His skillset is similar to a former Sox SS that was also a placeholder and came from the Marlins. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/alex-gonzalez/520/stats?position=SS Time is a flat circle and yadda yadda yadda...
  18. Sox should have locked up two of Betts, Bogaerts and Devers. They didn't. Now they probably will all be out the door. It's pretty sad and dumb. Ownership and front office is at fault here for sure. It's an embarrassment.
  19. Not with what the contracts were this year.
  20. They are SHORT TERM contracts to get us to the next generation of Red Sox players. If they gave Jansen a 5 year deal, it would be a problem. There is no issue year. The plan is to not tie the team down financially long term and begin to offer extensions to their younger players and obtain other young players via trades for players from their solid farm system. At least I hope that's the plan.
  21. The last time they finished better than 3rd place was 2016. Only 3 seasons above .500 in the past 10 years. I'm sure Rangers fans will take whatever they can get at this point. I'm sure if they read this board they'd roll their eyes.
  22. I thought for sure someone was going to follow up with "Combined?"
  23. My preference is also Andrus. Per BTV: Murphy Duran Wendle Rojas Sox then DFA Arroyo. Wendle is the backup 2B/SS/3B and provides the LHB the Sox have been looking for to platoon in the IF (career 106 wRC+ vs RHP).
  24. At least they grabbed pitchers that are certain to get 32 starts this season.
  25. He has been spending money, just not at the positions we had anticipated: SS/RF/SP (until Kluber). He did grab some high end relievers which we all saw as a need.
