  1. I'm glad that it's an 11 year deal rather than an 8 year deal that was close enough to be within reach.
  2. They took less money, but not that much less. Also, not less years. Sox should not be paying Xander for 10 or 11 years full stop. We realize it. Xander is being massively overpaid. For me the stretch for the Sox would have been 8 years. 11 years is ridiculous. Sox weren't going to come anywhere near that.
  3. Hell to the naw naw naw... No chance, no chance in Hell...
  4. Bad news! I thought Verdugo was dogshit in RF last year. He looked ok there in 2020. I mean, he looked really promising in 2020 all around...
  5. They moved him there after the trade deadline. Were they looking for a RFer, but only came up with Pham? Maybe it'll be a strict Verdugo/Renfroe platoon in RF?
  6. What side of the jersey is the new patch on? Could be added strain for Sale.
  7. I'm not worried about Politi. Middle relief guys come and go. Ward leaving is unacceptable. He was the first damn pick.
  8. There has been noise about the Sox not being happy with Verdugo since last offseason. I think he's a goner.
  9. I'd rather have an average or better than average closer than no closer, which is how it's been since Kimbrel left.
  10. That's why the Sox needed to pay him more so that he wouldn't have needed the opt out.
  11. Agree on all except for the Betts comment.
  12. That's the stuff that really pisses me off, but it goes back to long before these two guys. I really started noticing it after 2011 when they booted Tito and ran him over with a car on his way out. This ownership is filled with horrible people who think there s*** doesn't stink. John Henry and Tom Werner provided the money to win 4 rings, but have also provided an atmosphere that caused some real dogshit seasons.
  13. 1. Betts should have been signed to the LA contract here. Ownership f***ed up. 2. Bogey's initial contract should have been for slightly more $$$ and not had the opt out. 3. Devers should have been extended by now. It was already clear that his bat was going to play for a long time.
  14. He was top 15 in fWAR last season. He was top 15 when I ran fWAR for the past 5 seasons. He's probably top 15.
  15. Maybe it was a ploy that Xander saw through which put the season on the wrong foot and they never recovered from. "We lowballed Xander and all we got was the 14th overall pick and some comp guys."
  16. If Henry doesn't want to pay guys after age 35, he needs to extend then prior to hitting arbitration.
  17. He's not a true power guy, he's a classic on base guy who has won a few batting titles. If it translates to doubles here, that's fine. He supposedly goes the opposite way well, which should work well at Fenway.
  18. I would trade him for sure.
  19. Unfortunately, time to trade Raffy... As an adult, don't have a favorite player...
  20. Yes, they should have traded Xander, Eovaldi, JD and others last offseason. I agree.
  21. OF: Yoshida, Kiké, Conforto is better than 2022 IF: 1B is better, SS is a downgrade, loss of Xander affects Raffy how much? C: about the same as last season if I'm being honest SP: Sale, Paxton, Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta has higher potential than last year especially if they add in another arm like Kluber RP: 2023 pen is going to be way better and it's not close The only real downgrades to me are DH and SS. JD was a 1 fWAR guy last year at DH. I think the Sox can figure that out piecemeal, it will just be offbrand. The drop from Xander to Andrus won't be seen defensively, but he's a bottom third of the order bat.
  22. @MikeSilvermanBB Scenes from San Diego airport: Bloom “looked shell-shocked at times.” From ⁦@byJulianMack "Old Red: Great Read, it was a 10/10!"
