  1. It's the same thing.
  2. It's their bed, they'll be lying in it. We'll have to see where it shakes out. Maybe they end up looking smart a few years from now? More likely JH goes back to the well and starts paying people again, but that's after all the goodwill has been thrown out the window. Fans don't want to be on this rollercoaster anymore. We've been told that the Sox are going to be competitive year in and year out, but it hasn't happened. They don't keep players that fans want to see. They act like slimy used car salesmen and talk like they are the smartest guys in the room. I'm not sure anyone buys the act anymore. The question is when does it really get ugly for them? And not in terms of talk radio/sports columns, but in terms of apathy or frustration seen at Fenway. I think ownership is insulated from everything else.
  3. Going back to the 5 aces thing from 2015...
  4. Why were they still a top 10 MLB team in attendance? Why was their overall ranking similar to 2018 when the team was amazing? Does winning matter or no? Why is attendance down across MLB?
  5. Also, Matsui was a great ballplayer. I don't think Yoshida is close to that level.
  6. Fukudome's k/bb rate was similar when he got to MLB. If Yoshida can still bb more than he k's, that's going to provide a lot of value. Yoshida may only be a 10-15 HR guy, but that would still be ok in this league. The Sox big problem recently is not being patient at the plate. This goes towards fixing that.
  7. They failed in 2022. 100%. 1. They ended the season with a terrible record. 2. They went over the luxury cap. 3. They offered QO to 2 guys that went to FA and others left for nothing. 4. If #2 doesn't happen, the return on #3 is MUCH better than what they will now get. That's a failure IMO regardless of what happens going forward.
  8. 1. Yes, it was luck. 2. We went through this process because you wanted to be disagreeable.
  9. My guess is that they just don't want to pay for top end talent and just want to spread the money around. Maybe also don't want to be on the hook for really long contracts? I think that's the only justification. I'm not sure I necessarily agree with it though.
  10. From what we have seen, the most likely scenario is that they do nothing and look stupid next offseason.
  11. Attendance is down across baseball. Is that Bloom's fault too? Sox are in the same relative spot they have been forever in terms of attendance.
  12. OPS includes Wacha's BABIP luck. Wacha Career: 298 2019: 313 2021: 312 2022: 260 Wonder where that 36 points came from??? Wacha was hit harder than Kluber. Higher barrel rate, higher EV and an xERA of 4.56.
  13. What drop? 10th in attendance in 2022. 9th in attendance in 2018. What good does winning do?
  14. I think the clubhouse leader is Alex Cora.
  15. They were wrong then. If they had signed him, they could have traded him once Mayer was ready. It's a below market contract now.
  16. He outpitched Wacha last season. Wacha: 1.5 fWAR, 127 IP, 3.99 xFIP, bb/9 2.19 Kluber: 3.0 fWAR, 164 IP, 3.92 xFIP, bb/9 1.15 Once Wacha's BABIP luck regresses, he's toast again.
  17. I hope to have clarity regarding the OF prior to spring training... Not expecting it though.
  18. His statcast has lots of blue. If he doesn't keep the walks down, his utility greatly decreases.
  19. I don't think there's a clubhouse issue. I think there may have been a divide between the players leaving via FA and the front office.
  20. They can miss the playoffs and have him keep his job. It just depends on if he's meeting JH's standards. We don't know if he's just following the script right now.
  21. Manaea was terrible last season.
  22. Kluber is much better than those guys.
  23. It's a "business" but you still have to care about company culture and how the brand is portrayed to the public. Right now, both are not good.
