  1. I believe they could have signed Betts and gotten under the cap at some point. The problem goes back to the other signings post-2018 that we have discussed over and over and over again.
  2. They chose... POORLY!
  3. IF he stayed healthy!
  4. Maybe Elvis' price tag was still higher before the Sox signed Chang and traded for Mondesi? IDK. I heard Elvis was still looking for multiple years a few weeks ago. That ship apparently sailed at some point, but maybe because the Sox closed their doors to him.
  5. Gobbledygook.
  6. They are slightly over due to the Rojas trade and signing, but can still get under if they trade someone. Being over for 3 straight years comes with additional penalties and Friedman has frequently called being over the CBT "not sustainable" because of the impact on player development.
  7. I wonder if they tell him that buying an OFer glove will get him to not play for 4 different organizations in a year again?
  8. Chang plays 1B and 3B as well, he's not just 2B/SS profile. He's actually played MORE innings at 1B and 3B than 2B or SS.
  9. Every team has the same quantity of players on their roster. Sox aren't hoarding additional players. The bullpen looks ok, but the young arms that came up last season need to perform better if the older arms break down. That being said, Mills is the easy drop from that roster. If this team is playing well, midseason additions of Story and Rafaela could solidify the offensive question marks we currently have up the middle. C McGuire/Wong 1B Casas 2B Story SS Kiké 3B Devers RF Duvall/Verdugo CF Rafaela LF Yoshida DH Turner
  10. At least Henry isn't the most unlikeable owner in the division. From the desk of John Angelos: “I'm glad we were in a full rebuild because it was what was recommended and was the right thing. Also, we were fortunate that as the world hit a pandemic, we were stripped down to that [level]. That was just good luck, really.”
  11. I think A700 did roll forward the league in Yahoo.
  12. They had to reset the luxury tax! Don't want to hurt Henry's checkbook! When you let QO guys go, you don't want to be over the luxury tax because then your picks drop 2 rounds! Can't let that happen, silly!
  13. Chang is probably injury insurance for Mondesi and Arroyo. Mondesi is not ready for Opening Day and there is no current timetable for him. They could probably pass Chang through waivers if they have to at some point anyway.
  14. He'll go to whoever gives him the most $$$. That won't be John Henry. It has nothing to do with the CBO or GM.
  15. The amount of things that have to break right for them to make a playoff run is quite great. They won't compete for the pennant or the AL East title. They should be close enough to the WC to have meaningful games the last week or two of the season though. I don't think they'll be as horrible as they were last season or as bad as some people project them to be.
  16. Angles have never spent money well. Padres have never won a WS. Dodgers are resetting this season.
  17. wRC+ the 4 years prior to 2022 for Elvis Andrus: 74 57 76 76 DRS the past 4 seasons: -4 -10 -3 -9 Maybe the Red Sox just don't think Elvis Andrus is that good?
  18. Same manager. Same GM. That franchise is treading water. Sad!
  19. The haven't even played a Spring Training game yet. Maybe not playoffs, but they'll have more wins than last year.
  20. Don't care. Yoshida is going to mash. Other former unnamed execs/scouts need to cry more.
  21. For sure. A glutton for punishment?
  22. Dear readers, note that jacko said not a peep about Nestor when he was diagnosed with a hamstring strain, but leaped at the chance to talk about Bello's forearm.
  23. @alexspeier Alex Cora says Brayan Bello was shutdown briefly (“nothing to alarm”) due to forearm soreness he experienced in his last bullpen, when he threw a lot of breaking balls. He’s scheduled to resume throwing Monday. “We’re very confident Monday he’s back on his throwing program.”
  24. On an MLB deal too. Younger than Iggy. His bat is ok. He can play every IF spot. Seems fine to me.
  25. I bounced from public accounting because of busy season. Once I had kids, my priorities changed. Maybe Thunder is just a sucker for the pizza parties?
