  1. Zero chance. If the owners try that, MLB would lose a season of baseball 5 years from now.
  2. That makes no sense.
  3. They screwed the pooch early on and it was extremely hard to unscrew.
  4. McGuire may not provide an onfield upgrade, but he's much cheaper than Vaz's 10M AAV right now and the cost savings was pushed to the pen where it was much needed. I don't think the dropoff will be all that noticeable. Career wRC+ McGuire: 85 Vaz: 84 McGuire's behind the plate skills (framing, pop time) are better than Vaz too.
  5. 1. Stop relitigating? No, it's fine to relitigate it until this year's team is actually constructed. There really isn't enough other meat on the bone to discuss right now. 2. Those who said. Yes, I was right AS USUAL. 3. Fault the team for not doing it. I guess? I see why they thought they should go for it, but at the time I thought that ship was sinking fast. FO has more information on their end, but it was an odd decision to stay over the cap to hurt your comp selections.
  6. The nits that we will find to pick around here.
  7. You always make the trade when you can bring a true ace in.
  8. Those are the moves we're waiting on... Tick Tock...
  9. It's good for baseball that he's doing it.
  10. His defense was perfect at 2b. I see no reason to move him. It doesn't make sense to me at all.
  11. Yes, because they stupidly went over the lux tax.
  12. ??? 2021: 405 PA in AAA 2022: 335 PA in AAA
  13. He has a terrible zone contact %. The swing and miss he has is just horrible. When he makes contact, it's very hard, but he just doesn't have the bat to ball skill that was advertised. It's funny because people thought his bat would carry him and he'd have to move to 2b, but his defense has improved, but his bat has held him back. He was released by his winter league team because he was playing so bad.
  14. And yes, any return for Devers will be underwhelming, but objectively better than a comp pick. Humph...
  15. Fell behind? Park was DFA'd first.
  16. Betts may be the best player of this generation not named Trout. Letting him go and not getting anything back substantial is embarrassing. Think of all the deadline deals where decent prospects are obtained.
  17. Only if he spooks us again? Unless his internet access has been restricted, I would have assumed he'd be all over this place right now.
  18. The difference in fWAR value is about $64M less the savings from Price, I guess.
  19. @itsbrianbarrett Fangraphs WAR Since 2020 Mookie 13.2 (8th in MLB) Mookie return 5.1 Difference 8.1 (that’s basically Teoscar Hernandez during that time) Should have just re-signed him. I think this trade forever changed my view of this ownership.
  20. This trade was bad from day one.
  21. I'm not sure the trade is worse because of the DFA. We already knew Downs sucked. Downs - bad Wong - backup catcher at best Verdugo - turned into LF only defender with average bat This is not an adequate haul for Betts even if you are getting salary relief.
  22. If anything, this offseason killed him.
  23. Well, we got our answer on Downs.
  24. I think so.
  25. I also question how well his bat will play at Fenway. Career: 66 OPS+ at Fenway
