  1. Wallace is more likely to get a cup of coffee. Binelas really needs to turn it around. He was awful last year.
  2. @SoxProspects Matthew Lugo went 3-for-5 with a double (3), home run (6), and four RBI in last night's 12-3 Criollos de Caguas victory. The 21-year-old infielder has slashed .248/.336/455 over 117 PA in Puerto Rico this Winter. He's #14 on the #SP60.
  3. And for Swanson? Pass.
  4. No, it'd make it worse because it's going to be a BIG contract.
  5. But to go large and long for an untested guy like Senga may not be the best bet. I think the Sox should do a short term deal with Kluber and trade for a front of the rotation starter. Not sure what better options there were this offseason.
  6. Sox needed help all over the place. It's foolish to just go for one specific position and put all your focus there. Yes, they should have signed a SP. Maybe they still will? However, signing Yoshida doesn't prevent them from signing a 2b/SS or SP. Other teams were able to sign multiple players. The Sox already signed 4 FA's. It's not like they are empty handed. They just need to keep going.
  7. I forgot Hamilton. He has an outside chance at providing value at the end of the year because of his speed and the position he plays. However, his upside is much lower than the other guys I mentioned. Binelas isn't even a consideration at the moment.
  8. How do you "choose" the year if you expect to be consistently good year in and year out. This doesn't make sense.
  9. You can only be a contender if you go over the luxury tax? With the infusion of young talent, shouldn't the Sox be able to get under the tax and be good?
  10. What if Senga could have filled the hole, but Yoshida was just the better value signing? Senga is coming with some control issues from what I've heard. It's interesting that people aren't raising red flags about what Senga's contract looks like.
  11. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-red-sox-shouldnt-be-living-this-indiana-pacers-life/ If the Red Sox are pursuing the absolute top-tier free agents, they haven’t been doing so successfully. And they haven’t exhibited the cleverness or guile necessary to build a consistent Yankee-beater on a budget. They’ll go .500 or better pretty routinely, and every couple years make the playoffs, which, unlike in the NBA, is in and of itself a real shot at winning a title. But expectations are, and should be, higher than that. Thursday’s dueling headlines are yet another reminder that they’re not being met.
  12. Knowing that his dreams are about that, maybe he needs to be confined to a home?
  13. Did you just buy some Bullfrog stock?
  14. I'm not sure why the total $ amount matters, since the AAV of $18M is more important for payroll purposes. That's not a contract that is overly burdensome IMO. He just replaces what JD was paid.
  15. @chadjennings22 It’s not only Jeter Downs. The Red Sox have traded for 25 minor league players in the past three years. They’re still waiting to get more than modest major league help from any of them, and none currently rank among their very best prospects. What trade acquisitions could help the MLB team this year? Wong - back up catcher, but his bat could play up at some point Winckowski - arm would look much more potent in a relief role Valdez - maybe he has a chance to play some 2b? it's not like there's much competition Seabold - not really seeing it, but he had a great changeup at one point German - if he develops a secondary pitch he becomes a late inning arm right away RHernandez - depth catcher at best, not even the 3rd option though, bat didn't develop Abreu - bb's, corner OF with plus arm, power bat are some of the needs this team has, but he's a late season addition at best
  16. He's still available.
  17. He's close to retirement and lives in the area. It's convenient for him.
  18. Positive predictions for this season: Yoshida will have a 775 OPS. Barnes will be a competent middle reliever. Whitlock will be a good 3rd starter. Bello will continue to improve and will show that he's going to stick in the rotation long term. Kiké will rebound from last season to be a 3 fWAR guy again. Casas will hit 30 HR and play good enough defense at 1b.
  19. I'm fine with them replacing Bloom midseason if the plan is to bring a known commodity like Click in. Maybe they are waiting to bring him in because they don't want the stink of this offseason on him.
  20. Just go over this year. There will be cost savings in the near future when other guys fall off the books.
  21. And if Bogey's defense slides back and his power doesn't return, that WAR calculation is going to look worse.
  22. Patience... The post is made and the poll has to be added on afterwards as a second step for some weird reason.
  23. As the new #1 priority for the Sox (coded language alert), will the Sox finally get their man?
  24. @JonHeyman Red Sox working hard to try to lock up superstar Rafael Devers
  25. @jcmccaffrey One Red Sox scout on the ground in Japan felt that Yoshida was the “the best pure hitter he’d seen since Ichiro (Suzuki).”
