  1. The horse and pony show seems driven by Kennedy. Bloom feels much more awkward with it. (“I just want to be clear: We’re going to do this. It’s going to be awesome. And we are going to get there.”) I think they are just trying to run PR, but doing a piss poor job at it. I think Kennedy is a guy who failed upwards. Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all than look like an angry used car salesman like Kennedy.
  2. Vaz is ok, but I honestly think he's a little overrated. He had some CLUTCH moments, but that's mostly because he stuck around so long. It's like Rich Gedman. I have fond memories of him because he played here for so long, even though he was only good for 84-86. I still remember watching him hit for the cycle.
  3. What is a real #1 though? Just because a guy plays 100 games, doesn't mean he's better than 2 guys that do a timeshare. Even Cora mentioned that Vaz' heavy workload had a negative impact on him.
  4. I agree on all fronts. A better GM could have projected an increased amount of injuries due to adding a bunch of over the hill starters.
  5. According to FanGraphs, McGuire was better than Vaz last season.
  6. Capable back up catcher is a high bar I guess???
  7. Downs was a highly touted prospect at the time of the trade. He was a good trade piece for the Dodgers. It just didn't work out in the end.
  8. I think Alfaro was simply brought in as a cheap backup in case Wong or McGuire don't work out. I don't think he's someone that was in their initial plans, but just fell into their laps. With Duvall, the Story issue forced Kiké off CF and they had to go out and find a CFer. They probably looked at the trade market and felt a one year deal for Duvall was the easiest way to go about it. Maybe they see enough offseason progression/buy-in from Rafaela on plate discipline? Similarly, not someone they would have initially targeted. They just needed his defense badly and were willing to overlook the other deficiencies.
  9. They were a medicore team last season. 14th pick in the draft? Pretty mediocre.
  10. Hamilton is fast, plays a position of need (2b) behind a guy who is constantly getting injured and they are currently working him out in the OF. He could appear in BOS. I'm not sure I'd count on it as his bat is pretty bad.
  11. Dude swings for the fences every at bat. I appreciate the grind. I don't believe he's a very good catcher TBH, but he could be ok for a mediocre team. I think it's more likely that we see McGuire and Wong out there.
  12. I think that caveat is always assumed. Risky predictions are always appreciated anyway. What's fun in being boring?
  13. I'm not sure about Feltman. He was horrible last season. He'd really have to turn it around and get his "stuff" back. He's just not the pitcher he was. I don't know what to think about Walter coming off that injury and not having much exposure at AAA. He'll have every opportunity to make the jump, but we'll see. I'm high on Mayer for sure. Lugo has really turned the afterburners since the start of last season. I think he's more of a September callup or injury callup or more likely guy that gets moved in a trade that appears for another MLB team. Abreu has a shot just because he has a decent approach at the plate, is an OFer on the 40 man and the Sox have a lot of question marks in the OF.
  14. On paper, yes. However, JD isn't what he once was. I think Vaz is overrated. Having a real SS and a healthy Story makes a big difference though. A lot of question marks right now.
  15. There's a chance we see Lugo, Valdez, Abreu, Mata, Rafaela and Mayer all make their MLB debuts this season. Probably not all for BOS.
  16. The only way they are being called up is if they are ready. Bloom will use the other "prospects" or the waiver wire if there's an injury before he calls those two up.
  17. When fans only pay attention to one team, they sky is always falling.
  18. What I mean is (a) going over the CBT in a year you wind up in last DAMN, ( letting your prospect get picked 1/1 in the Rule 5 draft when you protected a whole bunch of nonsense, © trading Renfroe because he was going to be too expensive for an even more expensive JBJ, (d) letting your star SS go for a QO pick when you probably could have re-signed him for cheaper money in previous years (e) etc. I'm not talking about FA signings or that didn't work out, just the things that were so obvious that he must have been hit over the head with a frying pan to not notice what was going on while these were occurring.
  19. 1. Options 2. Velo 3. ???
  20. He has no trade value right now. It would be dumb to trade him today.
  21. What did they do about it last year? They were over before they started the season. They are under now. Are they going to add more?
  22. No. Barnes will be good this year.
  23. In 2021 it was the "I've been right for 7 straight years about the Sox and they are going to suck this year."
  24. There have been some significant unforced errors by Ben. Those just can't happen.
