Rafael Devers has passed Dustin Pedroia on the Red Sox’ all-time HR list:
12. Nomar Garciaparra 178
13. Jackie Jensen 170
T14. Tony Conigliaro 162
T14. Carlton Fisk 162
16. Xander Bogaerts 156
17. George Scott 154
18. Reggie Smith 149
19. RAFAEL DEVERS 141
20. Dustin Pedroia 140
With the more I see of his moves, the more I wonder how much of a say he really had in Tampa? OR how much is someone else really calling the shots here?
@PeteAbe
Tigers lineup has eight RH hitters vs. Chris Sale.
Watch to see if he's able to throw his slider to the back foot of those hitters. If Sale has that pitch, he'll succeed.
If not ...
Bello threw 5 innings yesterday in an extended ST game. Velo was 94-95. Next stop is WOO on Tuesday most likely.
So Whitlock in BOS on Tuesday and Bello in WOO on Tuesday...
Interesting that they are keeping this guy, but got rid of BJ Vela, a guy the same age who could actually hit (927 OPS in FCL vs Valdez' 574). Seems weird.
@SPChrisHatfield
Of note with the rest of the full-season affiliates starting today, Freddy Valdez, a rookie ball OF acquired from the Mets as part of the Andrew Benintendi deal, is converting to pitching.
Barnes was awful in ST. They were going to work him into the closer rotation, but noped out of it when they saw how bad he looked. His FB is under 94. He's not k'ing anyone. He has a 167 BABIP. Batters have a zone contact % of 100 against him. I'm skeptical that he's going to do well over the long term. If he was playing here and had these numbers, I'd feel the same.
SoxProspects are big on Marvin Alcantara. They are working on updating their scouting reports from ST.
Not sure I see Noah Deah jumping into the top 100. He's currently ranked 41st in the system and is projected as a relief arm. Are you thinking of Drohan?
Guys that I can see jumping into the top 100:
Perales
Romero
Anthony
Hickey
I think more Sox fans will know about Paulino after this year, but I'm not sure he's a Top 100 guy type. Maybe Meidroth jumps up in the Sox system too.
Also to note, Bleier's velo is WAY down early on. Not sure if that is normal for him, but a 36 year old reliever losing 2 mph is not great. Need to monitor him going forward.
I think you need to pick the prospects you want to keep and deal the ones you believe are at the zenith of their value (Houston with Valdez and Abreu?). Don't deal them all, but don't hoard them all either.
Do they become so dominant without Price, Sale, Kimbrel and JD? Ben could probably sign JD and Price, but would he be able to do the Sale and Kimbrel deals?
I don't know if he could do a Sale or Kimbrel trade. Chaim is doing what Ben did. Need a younger version of Dombo who can be competitive while trying to maintain the farm.
I really liked what I saw of him at 2B. I don't like constant tinkering. I know his arm was already diminished. Why even try moving him to SS? Doesn't make sense to me.
