Diamond Sports Group had until the end of today to pay the Padres their scheduled rights fee and has decided not to do so. Tonight will mark the final Padres game that airs on Bally Sports. Moving forward, MLB is expected to take control of broadcasts.
1B don't generally earn a lot of value in the field. Even a fairly decent fielder like Mitch Moreland tended to have negative dWAR. He'd get more value if he played 50% at 3B.
Song is currently on a throwing program and facing live hitters. My guess is that it's not that much different than what the Sox could do. The only difference is that the Phillies are limited in how long they can leave him in the minors this season. I don't think it's hurting him right now. If they try to rush him to MLB and stash him on the bench, that'd be a different story.
I hope he turns it around this season and plays well. I hold no ill will. I just don't know how much longer he can keep up this level of performance. The 2023 Sox needed a Justin Turner, not a JD Martinez.

Some of the moves in the Mayer wake include Christian Koss to Worcester, Theo Denlinger to Worcester, Christopher Troye (37 K, 18.1 IP) to Portland.
Denlinger to WOO sounds about right! Koss probably should have been in AAA anyway.
I think some of us agree that the decision to go over in '22 was foolhardy. Some wanted to sell midseason. I know the smartest and most handsomest of us wanted to sell some of our most expensive players prior the beginning of the season.
The year 2 penalty isn't a big concern IMO. It's a jump from 20% to 30%. It's the year 3 that's the problem. Going over for 2 years and resetting seems like a reasonable take if you are not quite in the hunt.
10 years would get them to 2029. At that point, they'd be talking about Bello/Casas QO's. That's probably too far down the line, right? There isn't even a prospect in the SP Top 30 with an ETA after 2027.
After throwing at the complex, they'll probably rehab him in low A and see how he does. My guess is that DD still tries to hold onto him for the whole year out of spite unless Song is just a shell of what he once was.
Yes, it's confusing and kinda s***** especially in this situation. If he's active for the last 5 games of this year, he'd have to be active for 85 games next season.
