  1. Yup, he's going to need to learn to pitch to more advanced hitters. This may be the impact of getting rid of short season ball. Low A is now the talent level of short season. High A is now the talent level of Low A. AA is closer to High A than what it used to be. AAA is a much bigger jump than ever.
  2. It's to keep him as a depth option in case of injury to Whitlock/Paxton/Sale. I don't think he has any value in a trade. It's either bullpen, phantom IL or DFA.
  3. I'd rather acquire him early and extend than compete for him in FA. IF THAT'S THE GUY THEY REALLY WANT.
  4. The Red Sox are moving struggling veteran Corey Kluber from the starting rotation to the bullpen, manager Alex Cora told hosts Andy Gresh and Christian Fauria in a radio appearance on WEEI this afternoon (Twitter link). They’ll move back to a five-man rotation consisting of Chris Sale, James Paxton, Garrett Whitlock, Tanner Houck and Brayan Bello for the time being.
  5. For one year or to include an extension?
  6. You just have to believe that the Sox know which prospects to give up and which ones to hold on to.
  7. He asked for the Sox' original offer. The Sox said no.
  8. Prior to this season, he was great at limiting hard contact and had a low bb rate. May not have a high k rate, but that's the reason his xFIP is typically higher than his ERA. He's a good pitcher. I would feel more comfortable signing him to a deal than RODON. Urias' velo is down a little this year which is *interesting*. Ohtani's TJS is also in my notes. Ohtani will most likely be overpaid. Both are likely to be injured. Urias is probably a little more budget friendly, but we'll see.
  9. This is only true if every rotation is equally distributed in those 5 segments of the 150 pitchers. We know that isn't the case.
  10. Why aim for a "#5" when it could be a guy with upside like Whitlock or Houck instead?
  11. Buying is definitely the WORST way to go. It should be the last resort.
  12. I think it's clear that the pipeline isn't there. Bloom still isn't really drafting rotation guys either. The plan is to be determined I guess?
  13. Need to pay a premium for Urias' cool glasses. He's probably a better bet than Ohtani though for what you are paying.
  14. Trade and extension is the best way IMO.
  15. And Masa is pretty pretty pretty good...
  16. Yes, if they liked him enough to give him the offer in the first place, they probably should have sucked it up for 2023 and had Kluber AND Eovaldi in the rotation. Wow you went over? Imagine going over accidentally and getting a worse QO pick or something silly like that!
  17. He walked it back a little while later, but probably had a "Come to Alex" meeting by that point.
  18. Nick Pivetta 7/1/22-5/24/23: ERA 6.08 xFIP 4.55 K% 9.12 BB% 4.24 GSv2 41 QS 3 GS 25 He's been a little unlucky, but doesn't have a high enough ceiling to keep around for a rebound. Next!
  19. His EV on 4/4 was 97 mph! That 091 BABIP seems pretty damn lucky to me. He was a 4.50 ERA guy from 21-22. Now he's pitching worse. It's not worth it to keep him around.
  20. The ceiling was a very good rotation: Sale - coming back to form Paxton - coming back to form Kluber - pitching like last year (mid rotation guy) Bello - improving to #2 status Whitlock - becoming a #3 type The floor was: Sale - injury or bad performance Paxton - doesn't make it back on the field Kluber - injury Bello - regression or just pitches like the bad version from last year Whitlock - injury Pivetta - is Pivetta Most likely outcome is something in between.
  21. Sox offered him more, but pulled their higher offer after he looked elsewhere and took too long. Sox had to fill out their roster too and didn't want to wait around. They could have just gone over the CBT and given Nate the original offer.
  22. Texas was the ONLY option he had. There were no other available offers. Sox pulled there offer off the table a long time before.
  23. His ERA went to what in 2019? Was it a good season? Any noticeable velo drop in 2019? How many starts did he miss in Aug/Sept of 2018 and what were the innings he was throwing in the starts he made?
  24. Yes, he's not a very good pitcher.
  25. They didn't DFA Ort. He's still on the 40 man.
