  1. If he'd be looking for a 1-year deal he would just accepted arbitration to earn around $14 million with the Brewers. The guy wants at least 2 years to prove himself. Why you're going to give a 1st round pick just to get 1 year of Sheets? If you gonna lose a pick then make it count.
  2. While Tex rest at home, good.
  3. They got Swisher in a trade?
  4. Abreu and Dunn don't make sense.

    Pujols

I think he resigns with the Cards.
  6. Forget the trading for a Texas catcher. They're going into the season with Salty and Teagarden as their catchers. And the hell, why not.
  7. Seems they don't want neither Swish or Damon to play CF. They'll try to trade Matsui, DH Damon, and play Gardner/Swish/Nady in the OF. They need to clear that DH spot for Posada anyway (just in case).

    Bobby Abreu

Still, he's two years older than Abreu, he's slightly better than Abreu defensively and was a type-A free agent. Stupid move by the Phillies.

  10. I think every Ms pitcher hates Johjima for a reason. I can't imagine the Red Sox's without Tek leading that young staff. And about Johjima's 2008 season it was a big fluke, everyone expect him to bounce back, including the Ms. If Theo can land him as a salary dump move, it'll be a complete steal. A few points: 1) Johjima's BABIP was .233 after putting a .291 BABIP in 2007, that is unsustainably low. 2) He only struck out 33 times, while his contact% was 88%, means this guy puts a lot of balls in play, but he was unlucky. 3) His LD% was a career high of 21.1%, 1% higher than 2007's. Which means he was hitting the ball better. Bill James projected him with a solid .265/.319/.408, for $6 million. The Red Sox can live with that for 2 years. Without giving Bucholz, Bowden or Masterson. I rather give a 18/2 to Tek, but that's just me.
  11. Huh? I think you're underestimating Jake Peavy a little. In that rotation, Peavy is your #2 starter by much. But if you want a guy that can give you 6 IP and a 4.75 ERA, then just sign Paul Byrd.
  12. After that news, he might try to get a starting job somewhere else.
  13. Ace http://images.sportsnetwork.com/mlb/getty/stlouis/2006/weaver_jeff8_265.jpg 2006 Postseason: 29.2 IP, 25 H, 8 ER, 9 BB, 19K, 2.47 ERA Right.
  14. Postseason stats are overrated. CC is an ace. You guys can use those 25 IPs to say he's not, but there's 1659.1 IPs that prove otherwise.
  15. He was healthy last season and pitched like a #3 starter at best. A guy with a career BB/9 of 3.71 is definitely not an ace. If you wanna use the 'bad month' argument then fine, but I could tell the same of Beckett's July. If you wanna put up a nice argument on why Burnett's season was an aberration, then check his BABIP which was .328 and that's 35 points higher than his career BABIP. His FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) was 3.45, that's 62 points lower than his ERA. FIP helps you understand how well a pitcher pitched regardless of his team's defense. That tells us that Burnett's ERA last season was inflated due to poor defensive support, and bad luck.
  16. And what about you?!
  17. We're talking about how hittable they are. ERA has nothing to do with it, the defense also plays a role. Plus Burnett gave 86 walks that contributed to his high ERA. On Sabathia, he had a really bad April. But that's not the point.
  18. The new ballpark has the same dimensions as the old one. CC and AJ are two of the most unhittable pitchers in baseball. Sabathia leaded the majors in Contact% with 72.0% which means, last year batters made contact on just 72.0% of the swings they took against CC. Burnett was 6th with a 76.2%. So I think you should be a little concerned about that.
  19. Wow Theo is a GM and also a scouting director? He's Super Theo!
  20. I can see Tex signing with Boston for $200 million.
  21. Despite the fact that they had Ross Ohlendorf and Latroy Hawkins with ERAs over 5.50 pitching more than 40 IPs. The Yanks bullpen is solid, and it has so much depth in the minors. Scouts say Mark Melancon is a future closer, and there's a lot of other guys with upside waiting. And of course there's Mo. But don't forget the Red Sox bullpen now has Ramirez, he's their 8th inning guy. Along with MDC and Masterson. Lopez can handle leftys and well Littleton can throw garbage innings. But still, I think Epstein could have done a better job with the pen.
  22. Well you're crazy if you think that a Dice-K can sustain a 2.90 ERA with such a high 5.05 BB/9 rate.
