  1. This roster is not cohesive. It's fixable, but for next season. This year, they're cooked, and I'm honestly ok with that if it's the beginning of an actual sustainable contender. That take might piss some people off, but I just remember when I was a kid and the Sox were either oh so bad, or oh so close, but never reached the pinnacle. Now they've won 4 championships since the turn of the millennium, and we want a perennial contender. I see seasons like this (although again, they FUBAR'd this roster) as a stepping stone to that. Just my opinion though, y'all are welcome to disagree.
  2. I'd agree if they could, you know, not suck on offense half the games.
  3. He can hit, he's a draw for the Japanese market, and has a skillset that tends to age well. Trevor f***ing Story on the other hand......
  4. Could be. But I hope not, as does everyone else here.
  5. Goddamnit Bellhorn, I'm not going into that rabbit hole. What I will say is that Whitlock's peripherals are decent. Y'all need to have patience.
  6. My gut tells me they'll get a guy to slot down the rest of the rotation.
  7. If he hits well enough, sure. At the rate contracts are exploding, he'll be a bargain if he's an above average hitter in a couple years. Calm down.
  8. It's unfortunate and it's going to piss some people off, but you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette. 2023 is one of those eggs.
  9. Very rough comparison without accounting for several factors.
  10. ...which is negated by the fact that they pìtch in short bursts and can throw max effort without pacing themselves. Also they usually pitch with the platoon advantage.
  11. Y'all need a slap in the face like the movies to calm down?
  12. This is a fair point. With notable exceptions, pitchers usually perform better in the BP.
  13. This is a bad team, and it's not just the pitching. They'll be better next year with a more cohesive roster.
  14. Just don't respond to him. You're encouraging him. Ignore him like everybody else does.
  15. I keep telling y'all this team is bad and you don't believe me. Alcantara has been "should've been demoted" awful this year.
  16. It certainly does not. It's an area they will have to manage.
  17. That's their system, and I've come to understand it. Focus on their scouting strength, which seems to be hitting. There are other ways to find pitching both at the MLB and MiLB level. We haven't seen results yet, but the way their toolsy MIF/OF group looks long term, they could trade for effective MLB pitching in the near future dipping into the farm.
  18. They've been very active in the international markets when they have the resources to do it, and the idiocy of not dealing away expiring contracts last year not withstanding, they've made some trades that bolster MiLB depth.
  19. What I mean is, with a set plan they can continuously improve the quality and quantity of farmhands, and we know they have the money to spend at the ML level for the talent they want. I think we're in a good position for the future.
  20. But I think they'll end up being more bad than mediocre as the pitching injuries pile up. Not my wish, just my gut.
  21. They paid him about market rate the way salaries are exploding. I think that's where we mainly differ. He's also very young, and will spend a large portion of the contract on the right side of 30.
  22. I've been doing a deep dive on this farm system, and I can kinda see it coming together and the vision for the long term plan. The present needs some lovin' though.
  23. Sure, but he's three months into the extension, and your Devers hate borders on irrational.
  24. As I've said before, the mark of a bad team.
  25. Did you lend Devers money and he never paid you back?
