  1. .450 SLG? Yes please. Not impossible IMO.
  2. Once the 96 MPH heat is gone, Beckett will not be an upper echelon pitcher anymore, and the velocity is lost eventually.
  3. Ellsbury's a breakout candidate. He has yet to put it all together for an entire season.
  4. Check Lester's 2008 performance. Then get back to me. Park factors also fluctuate due to the quality of the pitching staff. You know this. Try HR tracker.
  5. It's harder for it to bite you in the ass if you have a SO/BB over 4.
  6. Problem is, it goes both ways. Beckett got his ass kicked in '06. Made the adjustments in '07. Was "meh" in '08. Was very good in '09. But not in '07 levels. They both have a lot to prove, but it's dishonest to say that taking the last two years as a simple size, Lee hasn't been a much more dominant pitcher, which is why 2009 is crucial for assesing their respective values.
  7. Ah yes, the "Vastly superior argument". It felt delicious when Lee outdueled CC.
  8. And why would that be? And i hope to God you don't say something about him signing with the Guardians. My only gripe about Lee is that he might command the same number of years and more money than Beckett, but he's actually two years older. That is significant time when awarding a contract to a pitcher.
  9. Yeah but then there's the adjustment of having to prepare his swing only right-handed instead of switchie. The "Declining fast" statement doesn't apply to his RHH production. He posted an OPS above, and had a .231 BA, but with a .228 BABIP. His production against lefties last year was no fluke, he actually underperformed.
  10. J.D Drew actual salary 2007-09: $42 million. J.D Drew dollar value 2007-09: $46.2 million.
  11. He mashed lefties last year. Why can't he do it this year on a reduced role? It doesn't really make sense.
  12. In all fairness, you bash Beltre so much that as soon as the word "Prejudice" came into play i stopped right there and thought you changed subject to him.
  13. I saw the guy pitch a decent amount of times last year, and he has electric stuff out of the pen. A mid-to-high 90's FB, a mid-90's two-seamer and a filthy slider with a lot of vertical and bit of horizontal movement, kinda like Nathan's but not as violent, the issue with this is, that in my opinion, it's the ultimate low-risk/high reward signing, he was very effective last year as a reliever, that is undeniable, and he will probably sign on a minor-league deal, if he's effective, you struck gold and look like a genius, if he's not, a handshake and good bye. He's a guy i'd like the Sox to take a look at, because it's easy to say "Oh, so and so sucks" without looking at what he has done lately in terms of adjustment and statistics. That's how you usually find a diamond in a pile of rubble.
  14. .850 is a bit optimistic IMO, but above .810 should be doable, specially if his penchant for hammering lefties is thoroughly exploited.
  15. ^Enough firepower to get to the playoffs tight there.
  16. I'm talking about Beltre. .355 OBP? No
  17. Because they're overall stats. The baseball reference stats you're getting don't account for starter/reliever splits. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=parkch01&year=2009&t=p#sprel Pitching role (Starter/reliever split). Right there on BB reference. .576 overall OPS against. The double split (As a reliever vs. LHP) is found on MLB.com's double situational split: http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_splits.jsp?playerID=120221&statType=2&splitSet=1&c_id=phi&sitSplit1=grp .321 SLG, .341 OBP vs lefties, 0 HR. Overall: .296 OBP against as a reliever.
  18. Being prejudiced leads to being ignorant. This is not an insult, but a way for you to see why others, mainly me, are so adamant about fighting this matter to the death with you.
  19. Lefties had a .661 OPS against him last year. And he played at Citizens Bank Park. A park that exaggerates everyone's power.
  20. .247 lifetime batting average, last year was the first time he ever hit under .230, and he had a .250 BABIP. That is due for a correction.
