  1. Average defense. His bat is still there.
  2. I'm going to ask you an honest question. Which do you think is more likely to happen? Beltre returning to 06-08 offensive performance levels, or Lowell regaining enough range to become at least an average 3B again?
  3. I think it's a money issue on both sides of the ball. Teams want to protect their investment, and players want to maximize their earnings.
  4. He was hurt on a hip injury which severely limited his mobility, and one from which you never fully recover your mobility from. You are discounting the facts in favor of defending what can't be defended. Also, that they were both above average doesn't mean one isn't better than the other. Please join us in reality, Lowell will never be an elite defensive third baseman again.
  5. Defensively, Lowell in his peak was not in the same league as Beltre, and he's in decline now, trying to compare "defensive skillsets" is an exercise in futility, since one is clearly, head and shoulders better than the other. Besides, where do you get this about Lowell having "better positioning"? I'll agree on the soft hands point though.
  6. You know who had a huge "glitch" on his wing and shied scouts away because of herky-jerky hitting mechanics? The guy who plays First Base most of the time for the Saint Louis Cadinals. Heard it straight from the horse's mouth in an interview a couple years ago, and look how that turned out.
  7. I'm sticking my hand in the fire and saying Beltre has a good year on the field and at the plate with the Sox, if he sucks, you guys can all give me s***, but if he gets it done, some of you (Doiji, i'm looking straight at you) better take a short vacation after (maybe during?) the season.
  8. That kind of present power and bat speed comes once, maybe twice in a generation on a guy so young. Everyone can make adjustments, but not everyone has raw talent and light-tower power at such a young age.
  9. Two thousand and four: 334/.388/.629 1.017 OPS 163 OPS+ Did you read above where i made the "Health-permitting" statement?
  10. Indeed. They're so closely related that the mistake should be understandable. (See: Beltre, Adrian; Giambi, Jason.)
  11. I have an interesting question though. Who else thinks the "Career year" theory is a reality? Health permitting, i see a 220 ip, 225 K, sub 3.50 ERA from Becket this walk year. I also see him never, ever putting up thos numbers again, no matter where he goes.
  12. Indeed. Since i'm usually the God of War on the site, but it's literally a dumb argument. No one would get angry if Beckett sucked ass and the FO went out and signed Lee or Lee wasn't that good and the FO kept Beckett.
  13. Stop with the macros, the insults, and the shoulder issues plz.
  14. Dude refuses to make a meaningful post. It's like clockwork.
  15. You guys all need to shut the f*** up. Actual conclusion: We would all be content with either Lee or Beckett in the rotation. They're both horses.
  16. The truth of it is, the lack of baseball is turning every little thing into a, well, baseball argument. I've never been so psyched for ST games in my life.
  17. I want to take this post to dinner and drive it back to my place.
  18. To be honest, i'd be content with either. I just think that over the long run, it'd be easier for Lee to adjust to the wear and tear of age, but Beckett being younger by almost two years ties that up.
  19. Beckett: No blisters. No problem.
  20. I think we should just wait to see how this year plays out. I've been waiting for Beckett to finish "refining" his changeup ever since the Sox got him, but Imperial, Beckett's curveball is a plus-plus pitch, no ifs or buts about it. His pitch selection is the most easily fixable part of his game.
  21. Where and when should i send the money?
