  1. Don't dish it out if you can't take it, is what they say, Mr. Keeper. Drew is a productive player, and he's been worth what he's being paid, that's about the extent of it. If people want to bitch about someone, they should bitch about Dice-K.
  2. Shitstorm potential increasing by the second. For someone who always backs up what he says by "It's my opinion" provoking others with your "ribbing" is not a good idea. Specially since you keep complaining about me, logic would dictate you stay as far away as possible from me. Also, what others have told you that have pissed you off is not my problem, and should not be held against me, and whether or not i "always have something to say" doesn't seem very important to the task at hand either.
  3. It's not about liking or not liking a player, but appreciating his contributions to a team. People cry, and bitch, and moan about Drew all the time, and it's ridiculous. Besides, there are others, more subtle ways of "poking fun" without the potential to turn it into a shitstorm.
  4. By Amalie Benjamin Globe Staff / February 14, 2010
  5. Thank you for your contribution. Were i to provide this fantastic contribution with a suitable answer, the wrath of God would certainly befall me. Funny how things work.
  6. Jacko's stance is not unreasonable. What he means by durability issues is that it's been documented that whenever V-Mart catches 110 games or more, the grind starts wearing on his offense, and he's an offense minded catcher. I don't think the issue is a bit overblown by our resident Super-Yankee fan, but it's something that we had heard before.
  7. Asked around, and this is what i got: CF playing at SS, muscular body (for his weight) refined bat that should develop power. Long throwing motion and inconsistent release point make him a lock to leave SS soon.
  8. The Yankees are the better team on paper, but it's a long season, and injury, inefectiveness and surprise performances always impact this kind of races. However, seeing as the Yankees won 100+ last year and actually got a bit better, Jacko has every right to firmly believe they will repeat for the division. That being said, any Sox fan who feels that the Sox are primed for a hostile takeover is also justified in thinking that, seeing that the Yankees, like every other Major League team, have many question marks, and it only takes one break to change the outcome of a division.
  9. Francona's reasoning for that was "To lengthen the lineup". Pretty dumb IMO, but i'm a couch manager, so what do i know.
  10. "As wild as Chapman, but not as electric" is what i was told when i asked.
  11. 1) That means you don't know what it is. Please research what it actually means. 2) That is semi-correct. 3) Massive strawman. No one has ever said Drew is a better power threat than Bay. What has been said (and stand by it) is that the "Drew can't drive runs in" argument is ridiculous.
  12. Identifying the actual location of the problem is the first step towards finding a solution. If pitchers can hold runners back, it'll be much harder for them to steal bases.
  13. If you put it that way, waiting is the smart thing to do indeed.
  14. Three Walks= Bases Loaded. Three Outs= End of inning.
  15. The pitching staff if just as guilty as the catcher tandem. Specially Wakefield (Lol knuckler) and BoSox pitchers don't pay much attention to holding runners back in general.
  16. I just think the RBI argument is legitimately ignorant. And it gets brought up every chance. RBI's a chance statistic, so using it as the cornerstone of an argument is asinine.
  17. Oh well. The guy could play 170 games, hit 200 HR's and Bat in 400, and the bashers would still find reason to bitch.
  18. Honest question: Do you know what BABIP is, how it works, and how its fluctuation affects hitter performance? Honest question number two: Do you see significant value in batting average? Honest question number three: Is there no merit to the fact that even though Drew had a BABIP under .220 with RISP and Bay had a .412 BABIP in the same situation, the actual difference in RBI% was less than 6?
  19. By Uziel Gomez. Baseball Field Boston President Larry Lucchino is currently in La Habana, and he seems very interested in signing local ballplayers , as reported by several baseball sources in the Cuban Capital. Lucchino informed an American sportswriter that they would "Sign Yuniesky Maya soon in order to deploy him as a reliever", and that they're also interested in First Baseman Jose Julio Ruiz. Maya, who was the best pitcher in the 2008-2009 National Cuban series, and was also part of Team Cuba in the second World Baseball Classic , is currently located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, waiting to be declared a Free Agent. The 28-year-old Right Hander is being scouted by more than twenty Major League teams, and is physically and mentally ready to pitch in the upcoming season. According to info from "El Nuevo Herald" , Jose Julio Ruiz will sign during the upcoming week. 25-Year-Old Ruiz was a standout as one of the most dominant players in the National Series, leading the 2007-2008 campaign in Hits and Stolen Bases, while being the leading RBI man during the last tournament. In five seasons, Ruiz has compiled a BA above the .330 mark.
  20. RBI%: Jason Bay: 445 Runners on base-116 RBI: Drove in 26.74% of runners on base with a .412BABIP. JD Drew: 318 Runners on base-68 RBI: Drove in 21.38 of runners on base with a .216 BABIP.
  21. .216 BABIP. Unsustainable. Career BABIP with RISP? .312 That's the reason why BA is a "Complimentary" stat, It lends itself to wid fluctuations in smaller sample sizes, unlike OBP and SLG, or OPS for that matter.
  22. David Renfroe.
  23. The "He can't drive runs in" argument is also nonsense. My fingers hurt from typing this over and over, but RBI are a team and opportunity-reliant statistic. With Men On and RISP, Drew had the following splits last year: Men On: 254 /.393 /.503 .896 OPS RISP: .213/ .399 /.463 .862 OPS 2 out, RISP: .280/ .438/ .700 1.138 OPS Pretty productive with men on base according to the stats.
