  1. I'm going to pass on Helton. Aside from the home/road splits differential, he's 36 years old. How much does he really have left in the tank? And I don't think the Rockies would even consider letting him go. He's the face of their franchise. However, Helton at 1st and Youk at 3rd would be an upgrade over Youk at 1st and Lowell at 3rd. I just think if the Sox got Helton it would mean they couldn't reach an agreement with the Padres on Adrian Gonzalez. Helton would be a stopgap acquisition who could help the team. Gonzo would be a significant acquisition who would help the team.
  2. I think this will be a good series. Phillies in 7.
  3. Yankees in 6.
  4. ? Huston Street really hasn't been the same since coming back from his injury.
  5. What? The 1980's weren't the pre-steroid era. It started in the 80's with the Bash Brothers. It fact, it probably started before they came along.
  6. Hawks have a flair for the dramatic this year so far. First, there was that epic shootout a few days ago. And today they came back from 0-5 and won in overtime. Biggest comeback in franchise history. However, until they resolve their goalie situation, they're going nowhere in the playoffs. I don't see it working out with Huet.
  7. Bay isn't the problem for the Sox. But if we're going to compare the two, despite his blunder in the NLDS, Holliday is definitely the better outfielder. Holliday is also a better pure hitter and gets on base at a pretty good clip. But then Bay also gets on base at a good clip. They can both steal bases. They're about the same age; Holliday is a little younger. If I had to choose between the two, I would say Holliday is the better overall player. However, I'm not sure who would come cheaper.
  8. Too many "if's" in there to sell me on Buchholz over Felix. They're about the same age, and one of them is light years ahead of the other in terms of development and just about everything else.
  9. In a word: no.
  10. I understand your point about eliminating variables, but hell to the no. I like the fact that parks are different. Just another thing that separates baseball from other sports.
  11. I agree with you, mostly because I like watching football games in inclement weather. But as long as you have Favre, the dome gives you an advantage.
  12. But if you're going to trade Buchholz in a package deal and get someone established in return, now is the best time to do it - while there is still an air of mystery about him.
  13. Except getting Felix at the expense of Buchholz is not a marginal gain; it's a HUGE gain.
  14. Yeah, in a perfect world you wouldn't move Buchholz. But let's be serious. If the Sox get a big bat and Felix, he's gone. And I wouldn't look back wistfully on the deal. At all. Because Felix is elite. He's as good if not better than Lester. Buchholz is still a work in progress and, for all we know, may never be a front of the rotation starter.
  15. Don't get me wrong, I like Marian Hossa and he is an upgrade over Martin Havlat, but a 12-year contract? What the f***! This will bite the Hawks in the ass in a few years, just like Soriano's 8-year contract with the Cubs. Sometimes, you really have to wonder what these GMs are smoking.
  16. I've always loved Gonzo's swing. No matter who they get, I think Ortiz and Lowell's days in Boston are numbered. And Varitek should be gone ASAP.
  17. Absolutely. Either one would have a tremendous impact on the lineup next year.
  18. The outlook is always bleak when you're down 0-2, but 2 games at Fenway could turn things around in a hurry.
  19. Works out well for the Rockies. Now they can pitch Jimenez in Game 4 and Cook in Game 5 (if needed) on 4 days of rest instead of 3.
