  1. 3 more innings of perfect relief. Just another day at the office for the pen.
  2. Quite the opposite. With the bonus cushion Kessel should be affordable now with in the worst case scenario one of the third liners needing to move to make room. This is a great signing. It's actuallly significantly less (about 500K/year) than I thought they'd get him for.
  3. Even with all that's happened I still have a soft spot for the Rocket. He was my first sports hero. I was fond of Mike Greenwell too and remember Dennis Boyd fondly. What happened to Aaron Sele still baffles me and I always thought Scott Cooper was better than he actually was. Between about 1996 and 2003 I kind of drafted away from the team for awhile, at first because it didn't seem like they were going anywhere in particular and later more because of sheer lack of opportunity (no Sox on TV where I grew up, and a very limited and weak radio signal. It wasn't until 2004 that I really learned what it was to actually be a fan of this team. That was the point where I never really looked back.
  4. Frankly, with Weeks, he doesn't need to show much more power than he already has, with his OBP-speed combo. As long as he doesn't actively regress he'll be quite a serviceable 2B. The power upside is pure bonus. You do want a decent utility man behind him however (a Maicer Izturis type should cover it) for the days when he won't be healthy. As for another 2B who's left, I'd have to search a bit but the only guy I can think of who's still on the board and worth much at all is Alberto Callaspo. Who I was going to take if Weeks didn't fall to me. Maybe Jose Lopez too but his OBP is putrid as a rule
  5. I think that's about as far as Rickie Weeks was likely to fall, 10-15 HR power, good speed, and a nice OBP combine for a very good leadoff package, and while Weeks is still developing a little defensively he does get the job done at 2B. Guy's basically Brian Roberts except younger and... you know... not so hideously overrated. He's also got very high breakout potential IMHO if he gets his act together. I keep going back to the draft thread and scanning again and again because I can't BELIEVE that guys like Orlando Hudson and Howie Kendrick were picked while Weeks was still in the board.
  6. Rickie Weeks, 2B
  7. Nah, Gonzo was actually a fair to good defender at worst, his problem was he couldn't stay on the field.
  8. We are not poor. If we go to the Brewers I want it to be for JJ Hardy or Prince Fielder.
  9. Eh Gonzo wasn't that bad, wasn't too sad to see him go though. His kind come and go. Didn't like the Lugo signing at the time. It has not grown on me since. Frustrating thing is that we don't really have that prospect, not at any level, that we can look forward to and say "Here. Here is our shortstop." One of the reasons I tend to hold the minority opinion on Casey Kelly and would prefer to see him developed as a desparately-needed SS rather than yet another high-ceiling pitching prospect.
  10. Because as we all know, injuries sustained doing something other than pitching have no affect at all on pitching performance or mechanics. http://thefuntimesguide.com/2006/12/amazing_sports_injuries.php
  11. Oh, and while we're at it. One terrible, injury-riddled year CAN negate years of durability and effectiveness. Example: Brad Penny.
  12. No but that doesn't mean you can ignore how players are performing in a given year either.
  13. I'm not sure I like DipreG's rotation that well. Lincecum is a fine ace but he doesn't have a lot of proven talent behind him. The upside is there, sure, it's there in spades, and Verlander's a heck of a #2 if he can shake 2008 off, but Baker has been quite inconsistent over his career and Price is unproven.
  14. Ramirez was due for a fall. Picked a heck of a time for it though.
  15. Yeah.. So it's like that...
  16. Let's see that empty BA put to good use, Jacoby.
  17. Can't break through...
  18. Another Scarytek bomb would be fun here.
  19. Over or under on the Sox actually getting a fourth hit in this game?
  20. Then there's Bronson Kiheimahanaomauiakeo Sardinha
  21. A strike 3 would be perfect here. EDIT: I'll take a flyout. Suddenly 2 outs.
  22. Varitek got a runner???????!!!!
  23. Tried to make a running catch in foul territory and smashed into the wall.
