Bay and a prospect for Dye and a prospect might be the best way to work this out. Then we slide Dye into left and hold onto him for a couple years, and re-up him if Reddick needs time or, heaven forbid, flames out.

Could the White Sox trade Jermaine Dye? Could we be interested? is there enough common cause between our assets and their needs to get that done?

The kid was 20 YO and in his second full professional season, and had good command of a 93 MPH fastball. A bit early to anoint him a mediocre prospect wouldn't you say? He's the kind of player you move in a deal like this sure -- but don't oversell it. He has a chance to make the show.

I would say Kotsay, yes. He did a good job defensively but he just wasn't getting it done with the stick.

I imagine that the Pirates aren't too displeased either. They gave up an impending FA for a fluid fielding shortstop who's close to the majors and a nice 20 year old starting pitching prospect.

Nice little B-day present for me, the Red Sox did exactly what I wanted them to, and wound up paying less than I thought they would to do it.

could split the difference and say it's a three player deal, Saito to third team, prospects from third team to Pittsburgh, LaRoche to Boston.
