  1. Because they're young jocks who think they're invincible and they stay in the same habit when they become old jocks who think they're invinciple. You really think responsibility is high on the list of attributes of a professional athlete?
  2. I didn't know they'd moved back.
  3. The only prospects we have that I wouldn't move in a Lee package are Kelly and Bard. kelly because I don't think it'd be maximizing his value to deal him now, Bard because I think he's a stud and I want him setting up in Boston for years. Buchholz, Bowden, Masterson, Anderson, Exposito, for Martinez, Lee. It's a heck of a lot of MLB-ready pitching to deal, but if it sets us up for a ring, it's worth it. And we still have guys like Reddick, Rizzo, Federowicz, Bard, and Tazawa all pretty close.
  4. You know as well as I do the times in our history, essentially in the 50's, when crap teams were met with no attendance to speak of.
  5. Not if you use such an extreme example, no. But which is more valuable, 230 IP's at 4.2-4.5 ERA into which are mixed 15 wins and several quality starts, or 175 innings 5 and out, even given a 3 ERA?
  6. Have you heard me when I've repeateldy said that velocity is not Buchholz' problem? He's got a good fastball -- like Wily Mo Pena had a good power swing. OK, maybe not THAT bad, but "talented but inconsistent" sums up my feelings on Buchholz. When he's on you're in awe and you see what the future will be when he puts it together, but that's not what you're getting on a regular basis from the guy. At least, not yet.
  7. True. You give Royals fans any hope of a good year and attendance tends to average 20K a game or more, even after the demoralizing, crushing years they've had to endure. They're better in their own way than the old Fenway Faithful.
  8. OK, that sounds more like looking for a reason to not like Kessel than it does like a real analysis of the player. Kessel isn't tough or strong, but he's dang fast, and he's got great scoring tools. And he's actually surprisingly good on the backcheck when he commits to it because of his speed.
  9. At the moment, that excludes too many outings. Ahh well, at least it's the sort of thing that you can expect a guy to develop with consistency and practice.
  10. Exceptions prove the rule. Moyer is an exception. Every soft tosser wants to be him, but only Moyer is Moyer.
  11. Innings eaters just get no respect at all, don't they.
  12. He's better than a guy who didn't pitch at all last year and two that abjectly sucked.
  13. Oh come on, it wasn't VERY funny, but it was OK.
  14. How about Josh Johnson? If we're going after SP's, he'd be one I'd definitely be willing to pay a good price for.
  15. 91 actually, but he got him on what IIRC was a 75 mile an hour curve right over the heart of the plate. Didn't dip much, and the location was very chancy, but the saparation was interesting and he caught Pudge flat-footed with it. Also had some sink to his fastball and got the first out on a tough high chopper to the mound. he might get to 93 with some conditioning and the right coaching. if it was just about stuff, as desparate as the Royals are they'd just leave him in KC. Can't be worse than what they already have.
  16. I wonder how much better our teams would have been in 2006-2008 if we'd still had Bronson. Not that hard to figure out in each of those years who Bronson would have replaced in the rotation. (2006 -- Clement, 2007 -- Tavarez, 2008 -- Schilling)
  17. Frankly, even if he's reinstated now, the decades of exile is pretty stiff punishment. I could see "letting him off for time served" at this point.
  18. Theo tried that. According to the rumors anyway. The Guardians aren't really very interested in dealing either player at the moment.
  19. I read somewhere they already turned down a better package on paper for Martinez alone, didn't they?
  20. Alex was a standard fare garden variety utility infielder. He's literally not worth the effort of hating after he's gone. He did his job, earned his money and moved on. Lugo on the other hand was a huge underachieving waste of a lot of money and cost us a dang good pick to acquire. It's more than apropos to spend some time hating Lugo.
  21. Seriously? they'd take the all star game from KC because they're signing prospects to overslot deals? idiots. This is exactly what KC needs to be doing right now. Don't punish them for it!
  22. That's kind of my point. He needs his primary offering to be that low 90's fastball of his. You can't live forever on offspeed stuff, not even a guy like Buchholz.
  23. Bard also has an overwhelming main offering. Buchholz' main offering is his primary weakness.
