  1. Pretty much yeah. And there we stop. I don't want Yeszir mad at me again. I am one. That does not mean I wish to explain or defend the church at all times.
  2. If we're talking shortstops it could be. If the guy with the .770 OPS looks like Garfield and has extremely limited range and the .667 OPS guy is a capable fielder then the upgrade could be very marginal indeed.
  3. Personally I have to think that half the reason to go for Guzman is that whole idea that anyone else must be better than the guy we have. Personally I think that's foolish.
  4. Neither could I -- I was sitting in front of a radio.
  5. Well, I guess it is Sunday...
  6. Dipre's right. We did start the season with great depth. Results like this is why you make sure you have that depth if you can. We've actually had nearly as many problems this year as we had in 2006 at this point. It's having the extra options that's separated this year's result from 2006. You'll notice that we've officially used ALL of those 7-8 starters this year (even if we've only used Bowden and Tazawa in the pen, we've used them). In 2006 we used THIRTEEN different starters. If we hadn't been this deep, and we'd have guys who failed like Daisuke or Smoltz or simply got hurt like Wake, we'd have to be desperately scanning the waiver wire for anyone's castoff pitchers. We might even have to pick up worthless scrub starters for the #5 role. Just for a random example, we might even have to use guys like Sergio Mitre.
  7. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2006/03/15/K6jRsrgr.jpg Real shortstop's build there. Slap the tools of ignorance on that guy and I'd believe it better. http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/images/2005/02/02/MCXnA6cT.jpg Full cheek creases and double chin. You want this guy at SS?
  8. I'm not exactly claiming that Green is the next Ozzie Smith, but picking up a guy like Guzman is definitely a panic move, and I don't want him on "my" team.
  9. I did mention, I believe, that I'm an LDS. it even touched off quite a crapstorm Yeszir had to clean up. Keep your case of beer.
  10. After the first week or so, don't rule it out. Guzman is very weak defensively.
  11. Are you? You claim reactionary thinking is a great evil, and yet you're so emotional over Green that you're willing to get stuck with an albatross contract for Julio Lugo, Mark II instead of showing a bit of patience and going for the real prize in the offseason, which Guzman interferes with. Just because "Green sucks ass." Seriously?
  12. I would be much, much happier with a waiver claim of Miguel Tejada.
  13. The weak point there is Woodward, not Green.
  14. I could quote you all the numbers that say otherwise, but I'd be talking to a wall. Suffice it to say that you're very wrong.
  15. Green. You might not like it much, but as Whiffy McNobat shortstops go Green is one of the better ones.
  16. You don't think $17M of incumbent shortstop salary would interfere with their desire to go after another big name SS in the offseason? I guarantee you they have to eat salary to get Guzman off the team, and with Lowrie around off the team is where Guzman should be going if Hanley's in the offing. I also guarantee that the Marlins won't take Guzman for any price greater than free.
  17. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Adam%20Mills&pos=P&sid=t546&t=p_pbp&pid=474126 http://www.soxprospects.com/players/mills-adam.htm I have no read at all on this guy. From the SP scouting report it sounds like a cross between Justin Masterson and Brian Bannister. He's never put up decent numbers in the minors -- and yet here he is in Pawtucket having risen pretty rapidly through the system. Is there anything to this guy? Or is he just a placewarmer?
  18. Not really. Green is producing far below average in a position that can be carried by a good defender. Ortiz is producing far below average offense in a position where offense is the ONLY thing. If anything, the more critical hole is DH.
  19. This is the Florida Marlins we're talking about. Every player on that roster is available and the currency is always prospects.
  20. So? We have them. That's what prospects are for, either to develop themselves into strong options to the team, or to be traded for another team for a SUPERIOR option. Cristian Guzman is not a superior option.
  21. Lowrie is at least as good a risk as Guzman, is far cheaper, and is better defensively. There is no reason to prefer Guzman to Lowrie if both are healthy.
  22. If there's a crack pipe between me and you, it's because it's between your lips. Guzman by no means provides enough offense to justify the defensive downgrade from Green OR the bloated salary, much less both. Yes, I said the defensive DOWNGRADE from GREEN. Take that however you like. The numbers back it up. I'm not happy with our tandem at SS either. That said, getting stuck with Guzman is worse. We might as well have kept Lugo at that point.
