  1. Spit in the ocean. THe problem is bigger than who the closer is or isn't.
  2. I'm worried we'll put up an illusion of progress and they'll be buyers at the deadline.
  3. How many of those owners wanted an experienced WS manager?
  4. If he's going to finish this epic embarrassment against the Yankees in the style I think he will, he might not make it through to Monday.
  5. At this rate it's more like our first losing season since 96.
  6. Sounds like the 2008 election to me. And for the record, I agree completely. It's always better to move forward than it is to chose our leader based on who that leader isn't.
  7. This is an excellent point, and something I felt strongly about in the offseason (although it is spelled "Sveum," as this is good ole Windmill Dale we're talking about IIRC). Personally my choice was Ken Macha, and for exactly the same reasons I suspect Cherington wanted Sveum.
  8. We don't just need bullpen relief. This team isn't goiing to go anywhere without a serious injection of leadership. If there's one mistake this team has made recently, it's counting on Josh Beckett to do for this rotation what Curt Schilling once did for it. He's not that kind of player. And on the other side of the ball I think we all seriously underrated Manny and what he could mean to the team. It really hasn't been the same without him, and it's been a turn for the worse in many ways.
  9. Indeed. It takes 5 good arms to make a solid bullpen. Bard would be one, if he's good enough and motivated enough to thrive in a bullpen role. You'd still need 3 more arms to save this pen, even if Aceves and Bard are all that.
  10. Zone got real tight.
  11. And that's just what we need.
  12. No words exist. This city is getting humiliated at every turn since Brady got old.
  13. Uhhhhhhhh..... http://s1.hubimg.com/u/2673072_f520.jpg
  14. B, but trending towards C. How much worse off could we possibly be we be if we threw 'Tek into the fire as the manager?
  15. And he's going to just slot into the bullpen and nothing will change, he'll be the old Bard we remember with no material differences. Right? Right? Naive.
  16. So, roughly like Scutaro, your main point being that Scutaro wasn't adequate either. Which I'd agree with TBH.

  19. Agreed on Bard. His manager handles him properly, he gets out of there with a pretty good line. As it was, still not bad for a clear work in progress.
  20. Because the whole point of the strike zone is that that's the area where, if a ball is thrown there, a professional hitter ought to be able to make contact with it. If a ball is thrown too far outside the strike zone, sure, you can occasionally still make contact if you're disciplined, have a good idea what you're swinging at and have a quick bat, but has that described Ross at any point recently? If he swings at that, odds are what happens is that he misses, and we're yelling at him for chasing one that was obviously out of the zone to end the game.
