  1. I don't think Salty's as smart as Tek. In the same vein though, he's a better hitter.
  2. .879 OPS so far this year for Salty. Considering that about this time last year he was still putting up sucktastic numbers, I'll take it. Tek didn't really get it until he turned 27 either.
  3. That would make sense if the Mariners were in any kind of short term mindframe. They're not. They're using Ichiro's last few gasps to draw fans while they build over the very long term. Potential matters more to the Mariners than current production right now.
  4. No freaking idea. Lefties who can do what this kid has done so far don't grow on trees.
  5. Megathreads suck. you can't FIND anything in them. When you allow them to break out you get 5 page threads that are easy to read through. WHen you clump everything into a megathread you get 200 pages of Wall of Text that only a masochist would consider. This wasn't about Bard, it was about Bard-as-a-starter. There's plenty of threads about Bard that debate WHETHER he should be a starter, could we have one where we can allow his progress as a starter to dominate the discussion rather than the eternally lame controversy that dominates the other thread?
  6. Yeah yeah, didn't see it, can we move on?
  7. I didn't see a thread updating Bard's progress as a starter, which is why I broke this one out. If I'd posted this in the Bard-to-the-pen thread, it would have put the Bard-to-the-pen folks entirely on the defensive and maybe triggered another gentleman's measurement contest, which I didn't want.
  8. He's not wrong about Albers. Albers looks elite at times. He just can't sustain it over a full year. Reminds me strongly at times of Aardsma.
  9. I've been very impressed by the progress Bard has shown as a starter. The start he made tonight would be a good start no matter who made it and is his second quality start of three starts made. Now it's still early, but the steady progress has been impressive from start to start and the progress he's making is rapid. I expect him to have some dead-arm related duds in mid June, and if he gets past those without too much damage, we have an ace potential kid here. If people can get over the closer wangst and realize the job this kid is doing as a member of the starting rotation, we just might have something here.
  10. Nah. Smoltz and Penny were signings that didn't work sure, but there wasn't a lot riding on them working. In order to be a real bad signing, the failure has to set the franchise back IMHO. Smoltz and Penny were too disposable for that. Lackey? Crawford? Renteria? Lugo? Those were high impact failures. Dwelling on Smoltz and Penny is like dwelling on the Gagne trade.
  11. Best FA: David Ortiz Keith Foulke Bill Mueller Alex Gonzalez Worst: Alas and Alackey Carl Crawford Mike Cameron Re-signing Mike Lowell (sorry Mikey, likeable ballplayer, fantastic fielder at 3B, great in 07, but that's when it shoulda ended) And the "Well it didn't work out as well as we hoped, but it's hard to really get on him for these guys because they did play significant roles in one Championship year" list. Drew Lugo Daisuke Tavarez
  12. How about a 33 year old GG 1B? He only has to be a 3B here because we have Gonzo.
  13. Salty's turning into pretty much what we expected. A not really great defensive catcher, with a decent arm and a solid and improving stick.
  14. How badly would it ruin this kid if we tried him in RF?
  15. Yeah I'm a lil numb right now. and coming off an ACTUAL stressful game watching people ACTUALLY under perform, so I have a pretty good idea what that looks like and how silly you guys are being.
  16. Aceves is fine. I expect him to sort his game out and get to roughly his career level by the end of the year. You people are letting the fact that we no longer have Papelbon back there get to you more than it should.
  17. No. I just watch hockey. Lil numb right now.
  18. All that heart attack over a perfectly ordinary ten bell save.
  19. You all suck very much.
  20. Take a nice lazy fly ball here.
  21. Bunch of freaking drama queens.
  22. He's still getting out of this.
