    What are you even talking about? Buster Posey in his prime was a great defensive catcher, what metrics or stats are you using to prove otherwise? Also he is definitely still a catcher. he's played 11 games this season, 9 at C, 2 at 1B and has played a majority of his games every year in the MLB at catcher, he plays 1B sometimes now due to his age and the wear and tear. in 2013, David Ross played a majority of the games in the world series, in large part due to how bad Salty's defense was. Salvador Perez is one of best catchers in baseball, and is absolutely stud defensively. Miguel Montero is 36 and is retired. Maybe he regressed, IDK, due to being old? McCann in his prime was stud offensively, and his defense was solid enough, if the knock you want to use on him is that he struggled defensively in one of the last seasons of his career? Sure, go for it. Not sure what this has to do with anything regardless. None of our catchers are as good as McCann. Vazquez isn't a better hit than Leon, they are both equally s*****. But Leon offers better defense... I don't get the difficulty of understanding this.

    Incredibly small sample size, and besides Leon's offense isn't why he'd be brought up.

    The Rays pitching is nasty, theyre definitely a playoff caliber team. Either way though, nice to beat some s***** teams finally. Shout out to Chris Davis for continuing his streak!

    I think you are misunderstanding what me and many others are arguing in this Leon debate. I am not saying Leon is the reason the pitchers were good, or that Vaz is the reason they are bad. My argument is, neither Leon OR Vazquez are good hitters, they are both very bad hitters. However, Leon is way better defensively (and yes it is a pretty large difference, the metrics support this) and the pitchers seem to be more comfortable with him for whatever reason. So why have Vazquez over Leon? If they both suck in one area, and Leon is superior in the other, why keep Vazquez over Leon? There is nothing Vaz does better, that is the point being made. I'm not arguing that the pitchers are sucking because Leon, if they are MLB pichers being paid millions and can only pitch to Sandy Leon, that is a completely different issue I don't even know how to toggle.

    Khris Davis of the A's has hit more homers in 2 games at Camden Yards, than Chris Davis of the Orioles has hits since August last year at Camden Yards. What an absurd stat.

    There is no on suggesting the pitching isn't to blame, literally no one. Sure some people might be arguing the catchers and even Cora and the pitching coach deserve the blame. But no one in their right mind is giving the pitchers a free pass, they deserve a majority of the blame.

    This is exactly what I've been saying. What does Vazquez do that makes him better than Leon? Neither can hit, and Leon is better defender.

    I don't think literally anyone here has suggested the starting pitching hasn't been absolutely horrible and isn't the problem. If Leon is called up, will he really make the team any worse than what Vazquez is doing though?

    I'm not saying he's good, he was a negative WAR player last year too, I'm saying Vazquez sucks too, and Leon is honestly a better option, due to how bad Vazquez sucks. The reason Leon is in AAA was money a money decision. No one is taking Vazquez with his salary and they aren't gonna release him and pay another guy to not be on the team.

    This is whats concerning. A lot of people thought the Sox pitching would get going this week with 6 games against Toronto and Baltimore. They are getting rocked by bums and no names.

    This team isn't this bad, I don't know whats going on and they'll like bust out eventually.. But they are burying themselves in the standings, and if they keep this s*** up, it'll be too late by time they finally figure it out..

    Or maybe it was due to the fact Vazquez was signed to a dumb extension, and is due $4 million in 2020, and $6 million in 2021 despite the fact he was a negative WAR player last season, and has been equally as bad to start 2019. There isn't much point to carry two "defensive" catchers, which Leon and Vazquez both are, so Swihart was given a spot due to the reason he is considered the best of the three offensively, and Vazquez was likely given the spot due to the guaranteed money the next two seasons, while Leon is on a 1 year deal. No one is saying Leon will save the season, and I don't think anyone thinks Leon and/or Vazquez are the catchers of the future, but there really isn't ANYTHING Vazquez does better than Leon, and this is more of a knock on Vazquez, than me thinking Leon is a savior and a star or anything.

    Where did anyone say Leon would increase Sales velocity? I have yet to see this argument from anyone, besides you claiming people said it would happen. I never said Leon would fix the pitching staff. But when two players both suck at hitting about equally, and one is clearly better defensively, why not go with the better defender in Leon? (And no, its really not close, Vazquez is incredibly overrated defensive).

    The starting pitching is very concerning right now. I don't understand, these guys are way too talented to be pitching this bad. Is it injuries? Is the pitching coach on the hot seat? This is just absurd.
