  1. Ethier had 396 AB last year. Broxton pitched only 13 2/3 innings in 2005, but he pitched 76 1/3 innings last year to put him in consideration. I liked Matsui better in 2003, but that's the thing with all awards voted on by the BBWAA. It's open to debate, regardless of how clear-cut you think your candidate is.
  2. Tejada is a free agent after the 2009 season (6 yrs/$72M)
  3. Never said it wasn't okay for Matsui not to get it. I just don't think Berroa deserved it in 2003 anyway. As for the Ethier question, he was brought up for the first time last year, hence his eligibilty.
  4. Isn't Japanese baseball considered to be on the same level as Triple-A? If so, then Japanese players should be considered for ROY. And Angel Berroa should give his award back.
  5. My mistake. I thought you meant Hanley.
  6. I neither know nor care what the beef was with Fred and the DBers that come here. In any case, I doubt the Sox would win the NL West. In fact, I think it would be too close to call. Three of the NL's top four pitching staffs are in the NL West, and they're all within 1½ games of each other. The Red Sox do have the better offense, though.
  7. But you got Beckett instead, so it all evens out, right? Except for the fact that Beckett is five years older, right?
  8. Maybe it's just a place where random stuff goes? Even so, it's still moderated harsher than the "fight sections" on other threads (DodgerBlues, MetsRefugees, etc.)
  9. As long as Sabean is the general manager, the Giants will go nowhere.
  10. I guess he's going for the French pronunciation. Kinda like Matt DIE-az of the Braves.
  11. Broken up with a Marcus Giles single with 2 outs in the 8th.
  12. Cain and Lincecum should be a good 1-2 punch for the Giants. Too bad they keep signing aging veterans on the team.
  13. Carlos Zambrano has allowed no hits through 7.
  14. Cain hasn't won on the road since 5/13, and that was in a 15-2 blowout of the Rockies. Since then, he's 0-2 with a 4.82 ERA. Overall, he's 1-3, 2.62 on the road. He hasn't gotten much run support, though.
  15. Wait, wasn't this thread about Olise Claiborne Meredith?
  16. Those three games in which he got shelled did a lot to increase his WHIP. 6 2/3 IP, 8 H, 3 BB 4 IP, 7 H, 4 BB 5 IP, 11 H, 8 ER
  17. The 2007 Reds team is worse than the 2006 Red team. Arroyo, while never considered an ace, put up the best numbers of his career last year. This year, the Reds' offense outside of Griffey hasn't clicked, and he hasn't received any run support. The scores of the games he lost: 4-1, 3-2, 7-0 (defense failed him and he fell apart), 8-6 (2 runs in 7 innings), 5-2 (7 IP, 1 run), 2-0 (outpitched by Brad Penny), 3-2 (complete-game loss), 9-5 (shelled in 4 IP), 10-2 (shelled again), 6-4. He got killed in three of his seven losses and got no run support in the others.
  18. Figured out? He pitched for the Pirates before you guys picked him up. He's been hurt by the long ball. He's given up 8 HR so far this year and his WHIP is atrocious. Then again, he does play for a last-place team, so it's a bit too much to expect him to put up his 2006 numbers.
