  1. What is the point of the "Rick roll" and does anyone know how it started? It's getting to the point where it's so over used it's lame, like facepalm lame. Manny just hit his first HR of the season, I tuned in just in time.
  2. I like Francona, but I just don't get how he has a habit of making bone-headed decisions. However, when it comes situations like yesterday with facing a lethal hitter with 1st base open, the greedy guy in me says "walk him" while the baseball fan in me says "don't be a coward, pitch to him". I've always felt that the int walk was a cowardly thing to do and I give props to pitchers/managers with the cojones to pitch to them, even if they get burned.
  3. 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts today. I know it's only been 6 games, but I'm officially starting to worry.
  4. Just good old classic Oscar Peterson. Just about all his Trios and Quartets were the tightest swing you'll ever hear, especially with NHOP on bass. If you really want to see something crazy, check out his Trio's take on "Caravan" feature NHOP on bass: It's INSANE.
  5. My patience for Ortiz is drastically reducing every game. And for Spudboy:
  6. I don't think RBIs are a meaningless stat, but I don't thing it tells all that much either. I much prefer to look at their splits with RISP to determine the quality of hitter in RBI situations. I agree that the #1 goal on offense is to not make outs, but in RBI situations, I think that driving that run(s) in becomes more important (productive outs). JD Drew is an interesting hitter. He isn't someone who consistently performers well with RISP, he seems to flip flop every year, having a great year followed by a terrible year. 2009 he was terrible with RISP, 2008 he was great, 2007 he was awful again, 2006 great, 2005 awful, 2004 great, and so on. Now, there is a correlation (really causation) between guys who perform in the "clutch" and how many runs they drive in. When looking at 2009, it would appear that JD Drew had a fantastic year and that his low RBI total was low due his place in the lineup (few RISP opportunities). While it's true he had fewer opportunities than Pujols (143PA to 189), Drew squandered his opportunities where as Pujols made the most of his. Now, a lot of people don't believe in "clutch", but I think it's simply a misunderstood idea. I believe in clutch, but I believe in it over a large sample size, not per single at bat. There are guys who do well in pressure situations and guys and don't. The guys who consistently perform well in pressure situations are what I would call "clutch". I love having JD Drew in RF, but he is too much of a Jekyll & Hyde to consistently drive in 100+ runs if he were to hit in the 3/4 hole. He's not the prototypical run producer.
  7. If he is talking about stepping out, then he should be criticizing HIMSELF and the other Umpires. It is THEIR job to give time to pitchers and batters. If he believes that is the reason why the games are slow, don't grant time so often. I don't think he should be allowed to call another Red Sox - Yankees game again for the season. It could be his punishment and would help protect the integrity of the game. I don't want an umpire officiating a game played by two teams they openly criticized and called "an embarrassment and disgrace". He is the one being disgraceful by being unprofessional by saying this to the media.
  8. He was probably just upset that the game delayed him 45 minutes from getting to eat his box of cannolis. Dude should be more concerned with his weight than the length of baseball games. God forbid he is to be somewhat active an extra 45 minutes once in a while.
  9. i don't even see why it's a problem for Red Sox - Yankee games. They are absolute cash cows and I rarely ever see people complain about the lengths of the game. If anything, the longer lengths of the games just adds to the epicness (new word!) and separates them from other games.
  10. Tito could have gone to Oki, Declarmen, or RR there but no, they already pitched once this year, who cares if there's a day off tomorrow, they'll blow their arms out!..............
  11. And here comes the grand slam to kick start Teix... Ok, maybe not, still over though.
  12. The way Mo looked the other night, this game is absolutely over. 5% chance at best.
  13. Well this game's over. So much for backing up a strong effort by Lackey, way to welcome him to Boston.
  14. I knew this would happen. Why the F*CK do you put out your WORST reliever in the 7th inning of a 1-0 game? Tito is gonna blow this. I can understand having him there just for Cano (not that I like the move), but there is no excuse for leaving him out to face righties.
  15. This game will go from a pitchers duel to a shoot out awfully quick if they put out schoensuck and Park.
  16. Why is Schoensuck warming up in the 6th inning of a 1 run game?
  17. Really? Tyler can't sing anymore (could he ever?) and Geils is just awful.
  18. Finally, get those clowns off my screen. I want to watch baseball, not listen to some blabbering idiot "rockers".
  19. I'm not worried, our backup plan is in SD.
  20. We have a strong pitching core, so we could go ahead and use our pitching talent in a trade, you know, for say... Adrian Gonzalez ::ducks::
  21. I'd rather have V-Mart back out there the way he's been hitting the ball. Let Tek get a game or two in the Royals series against a crappy team, not against the Yankees now.
  22. Great start, Lester looks ready for the season, lets just hope he doesn't run outta gas later.
  23. I wonder if it's going to be a quiet chat tonight now that the opening festivities are done.
