  1. Buster Olney is a pretty reputable guy, so hopefully all this holds up to be true! And wow we cant't bitch at the FO for not spending money if they really bid between 38-45 million.
  2. Not a bad list. Bucholz, Bowden, Bard could be our version of the Killer B's, but they still have along way to go before the see Boston's rotation. If I had to venture a guess, I would say Bard will be up 1st.
  3. Great bench player. Not an everyday starter.
  4. Jesus! 11 mill guranteed for the next 3 seasons isn't good enough for this guy? Don't get me wrong hes a great player when healthy but I wouldn't have given him the contract the dodgers gave him. I think hes gonna regret this move and end up firing Boras when all they gey is below 10 million a year offers. Scott Boras is the anti-christ...
  5. got this from foxsports.com ben mallers section, While the Yankees and all of baseball wait to find out who won the right to negotiate with Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, media reports out of Japan said the Seibu Lions were disappointed with the amount of the highest bid in the "posting" process and would need more time before deciding whether to accept it. Seibu was told only the amount of the highest bid and not the identity of the team that made the top sealed bid. The reports indicated the amount may be less than $15 million as opposed to the more than the $20 million some expected. The Yankees and Mets were presumed to have made a bid, along with Texas, Boston, Arizona, Cleveland and the Chicago Cubs. Posted November 10, by Ben Maller
  6. Theres so many rumors going around its not worth debating until the true answer comes out.
  7. Reports on espn.com have Boras wanting a 3 year deal so he can test FA again at 29. This could end up being very smart or incredibly stupid. If he turns out to be what he is being hyped as, at 29 we could see one of the biggest contracts every for a starting #1 pitcher. If he flops like Irabu, Boras will be kicking himself for passing up the more long term deals now. Boras is a tool no matter what happens, and if I ever met him i'd like to kick him in the balls for being the tool he is lol.
  8. Its more like a post I saw earlier, take a shotgun to your shoulder, pull the trigger and blow it apart, then try to throw and hit with it. Thats about how bad Bags shoulder is.
  9. Ya but he's injury prone and I don't think he's worth 11 million a year and thats what he left on the table. So he will be expecting more the 11 million a year and I don't see the Sox giving it to him. He will sign with someone in great desperation for a bat after losing out on Lee or Soriano.
  10. I've heard the bidding for him was thought to be under 5 million. It might cost you 5 million a year for him to play but the bid is gonna be lower.
  11. I agree. I posted a new thread in general baseball talk too. BOS,NYY,NYM,TEX, and CHC are thought to be the most likely canidates. With BOS and the NY teams in the front running( mlb.com)
  12. Since today is final day for bidding, I thought I'd create a new thread. So if anyone hears anything or reads anything about where he's going to end up please post here. I've heard it's down to BOS, NYY, NYM, TEX, and CHC with BOS and the NY teams in the front running( mlb.com, "Matsuzaka's suitors face deadline.")
  13. I see them keeping Youk until mid-season. If he's not performing the way they want then I could see him as part of a deal at the trade deadline. We can survive with him at first, but we will need to get a big bat for CF,RF,SS,3B. Someone besides Manny and Papi.
  14. Dunn would be the much easier one to get with a package of Hansen/Delcarmen, Youk, and Hinske/Murphy. Damn that's anwful lot for for Dunn. Besides he strikes out too much for the sox. Tex be great but hes gonna be big money next year or the year after. I'd rather send less prospects to St. Louis and get Duncan. He's a natural 1st basemen, He's a decent left handed hitter, and he shouldn't be too hi of a price. I love Youk, but if he's gonna remain at first we've got to find a bat besides Papi and Manny.
  15. That doesn't sound too bad, but it's still the Santanna argument all over again. 1st ballot H.O.F. for someone with hi potential and one good half season under the belt with?
  16. Yes I would rather discuss them when there done with but hey we still have a few days until stuff can get done. So for now senseless nonsense is all we have.
  17. Pettite in BOS? I don't see. 3 years ago the Sox offered him a 3 year 44 million contract. He wouldn't sign then cause he didn't want to pitch against his buddy's in NY, so maybe but highly doubtful. And optimist, I wouldn't mind seeing AROD on the Cubbies. But there might have to be another team invloved or you would have to give up Zambrano and probably 1 or 2 top prospects. I just see it hard to trade your number 1 starter( cy young 20 win season quality) for AROD, and his contract will not allow the cubs to replace Zambrano with a proven #1. The other side to this argument i've seen and also can understand is Zambrano has been a work horse the past 2-3 years with 200 innings plus and no arm injurys and might be inline for one if not watched carefully. He probably is at his highest value he will ever be so if you wanted to deal him now would be the time. So I understand both sides of the argument, and it's a tough one to decide on.
  18. I was just implying his approach might be different.
  19. Why predict anyone to go down? Besides Papi, Manny, Schilling, Papelbon, Lowell and Youk, the rest of the team had an off year. Pena, Tek, Nixon, Loretta, Gonzo, Coco, Hinske, Timlin, Foulke,Beckett( decent year, not at expectations tho), Wakefield and anyone else in the pen all basically had down years at the plate or pitching either do to injury, age or just a sub par year. Maybe he just expects everyone healthy to bounce back. And those numbers besides Papi and Manny's are n't huge numbers. They are seem feesable. As far as them being improvements i'm not sure. They look pretty much the same as before maybe slightly better. The pitching staff def. looks down in those predictions.
  20. Oh yes def. great subject for debate. Even as a Red Sox fan I hated picking MO, but you can't go on being that dominant forever without some sort of decline. Thanks for not burning me at the stake for saying Mo.
  21. I'm a Sox fan and I can see those as very plausable thoughts. I guess Schilling might but if he wins 13-16 games which even when not dominant he could get to 13-15 he wouldn't be considered in that argument. The Sox had alot of down players this year, coco,Tek, Loretta,Beckett,Timlin, Foulke and anyone inside the bullpen except Papelbon wasn't great. So for the Sox a better question might be who bounces back? Plus the Sox have so many openings in the line up there aren't alot of people to choose from. But given the current Roster, I'm gonna guess Wakefield to not be as productive as the team hopes. As for the Yankees( and I promise I'm not being bias) it very well could be any of the ageing players. I see Damon going B. Williams route of decline over the next few years( weak arm nagging injuries). But i'm gonna go out on a limb( please it's just a guess) and say Mo is gonna have a big decline. Don't get me wrong I hate him cause he's been so good for the Yankees, but I also have the upmost respect for him. That said with the injury problems last year and he's not getting younger is it that hard to believe he would drop off from 35-45 saves a year. The only reason I pick him is out of all the players on the Yankees he has the furthest to fall and is one of the ones creeping up in age.Fun topic don't blast me on this I don't pretend to be an expert, just playing along.
  22. That's what I say too. But everytime I put up a far fetched thought I get blasted for it. Like this guy on another board, I mentioned for the right price D. Willis, and M. Texeria are available and possibly T. Hafner( more doubtful then the other two). I have read that the other two are on the block, Because Tex is going to be coming up for a new contract after next season. He is said to maybe command a 100 million contract( not me saying this, got it from cbssportsline.com), and Texas doesn't think they can sign him. And D. Willis at 23 and proven stud is worth giving up 2 or 3 top prospects that have potential but are not proven work horses.

  24. It shouldn't, Palmerio got one for playing 1st base in 24 games. It's a sham I don't consider it a very credable award.
  25. What about Tek moving to 1st soon? Maybe not this year but don't they have to consider his knees won't hold out forever? If Kottras is as good as everyone saying, he should be backing up Tek this year and learning step by step the process of handling the pitching staff. Just a thought, what's everyone's thoughts, and it is just an idea don't slam me to bad:)
