  1. Bill, you know as well as I do that todays games is far different then even the late 80's early 90's. So even tho I applaud your effort for finding all those players, they are irrelevant to me, because the game is alot different these day. So after you thin your list down to players of this error what do you have? Randy Johnson, NL pitcher, faired decently not great in AL East, KB NL pitcher, not so well in ALE. Curt Schilling, He was injured all year when he was 38, so obviously if healthy his stats would look better. Also don't bring up record, W-L is a horrible stat to judge a pitcher by and you know this. Ok so we got who left? Clemens( do I need to go into this?), Smoltz, Career NL pitcher, Cone I'll give you, even tho his yrs where unspectacular but passable. Moyer and Ryan are abnormalities. Ryan was a physical freak , he still could throw mid 90's at that age. And Moyer, well theres no explaining it, hes just got it done for a long time. Also, you think Mussina could be a top 6 pitcher in the AL according to your argument at the top of your post? This is just madness and I don't even know where to begin, maybe its me, but does anyone else see this as insanity? Mussina might have a bounce back yr, but he will never be a top 6 pitcher, at this point his own club could start 3 to 4 pitchers in front of him.
  2. Jacko, YES radar gun has him at 92-94MPH, and a hi of 95MPH from what I've seen so far. Albeit a little wild, but it's only his 2nd start of the spring. LOL the Yanks do own him tho:D
  3. Mussina, Cy Young? Honestly Bill :wtf: No pitcher gets better at 38 then they where at 28,. Not unless PEDS are involved in most cases. Theres not a whole lot of "Freak of Natures". And Mussina at his highest was a Cy Young contender, but i'm pretty sure he never won one. So no, this statement is bogus and actually shocking coming from you, did you lose a bet to Gom or Jacko? Guys who have excellent season at 38+ are on something (Clemens), or have changed leagues, (usually AL to NL) or DON'T have to pitch in the lineup stacked AL East. We all know soft tossing curveball, change up happy guys don't fair well in this division. And don't give me Schilling either, he had one really good season, 1 passable, and 2 injury riddled, and his arm is hanging by the perverveil thread. What do you consider to be an excellent season? Mussina might get you more innings, maybe... both are injury risks, we all now this. Mussina if he can stay healthy might get you more inning threw the entire season, but Colon has a better chance of giving quality innings. I'll take 120 IP of 4 ERA ball, then 160 IP of 5 ERA ball. The Sox have the depth to cover the 40 less inning or so. I only give these number of innings as a comparable, not saying these are exactly what they will get. Although there pretty fair estimate.
  4. You disagree with me, but make my point in your next sentence?:dunno:
  5. What? Colon and Mussina are both injury risks. But Colon's upside far exceeds that of Mussina's.
  6. Beckett>Wang Dice-K Lester=Hughes(Hughes has more upside, Lester is a little more proven.) Colon>Mussina Wake>Kennedy
  7. I heard hi of 94MPH on fastball, 92-93 avg. *4-88MPH on slider, and 78 on change up. Doesn't sound too bad...
  8. Bye Dougie! You got 2 WS rings and millions of dollars for playing for the Red Sox...You lucky bastard....hahahaha Hope Dougie just calls it a career and finishes with the Sox. Even with all his faults, you have to admit, you could tell Dougie really did Love playing for the Red Sox.
  9. Lugo's range over Lowrie is negated by Lowries bat. Lowrie could easily match Lugo's numbers from last season and then some. Although I believe Lugo is due for a bounce back season.
  10. Whats the background on Paegan? If hes just a 4th OF I think the Sox should ask for more. Maybe a low level C along with Paegan.
  11. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080312&content_id=2420978&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Both our #1's have issues. Could be a slow start to the season for both clubs.
  12. Watch Tek will have some minor issue. Wake will be opening day starter, Dougie wil be catching the short 2 game series. Paps will have something so OKi will be CP. I get the feeling alot of the " Stars " will be absent from the trip to Japan. I think the Sox FO is weary of what thir trip could do to the team physically. Look what happend to the Yanks. I mean they normally stop slow, but that yr they started really slow.
  13. Beckett was quoted as saying his back is worse after 2 days of treatment. I hope this is a ploy so that he doesn't have to go to Japan...
  14. Ya a Yanks fan raggin on a someone for having AVG range @ SS:lol: " Pot, this is Kettle, Kettle this is my friend Pot, you two have lots in common."
  15. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080310&content_id=2416649&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Maybe we will see Lowrie on the Big League club sooner rather then later.
  16. Hansen will be in AAA to start off. And unless he turns it around and makes the 25 man roster, then he probably be a part of some trade at the deadline for something the Sox need. It will be selling low, but the Sox won't get any kinda value if the have to place him on waivers. And there are plenty of teams out there ( including the Yanks ) that would take a flyer on him because of his age and upside.
  17. Lester-165 regular season innings, if the Sox are in the PO, then add 20 inning for the PO. Buchholz- 150 regular season innings(Major and or minor league), 20 innings for PO. That will put them in the Sox range of innings they want plus have both for the PO.
  18. Not what he wanted, but thats a decent bump in pay for a player with his service time. Chances are he was a year early with wanting an extension, I think the Sox where looking at next off season to extend him. If he pitches well this season like he has and stays healthy then he will have prooven he can stand the load and should be locked up long term. I expect a 5 yr 12-15M deal with maybe a couple option years for 8-10M. Its a comparable deal to what Corpas got from the Rox, this deal would surpass it but not by an exteme amount.
  19. Newsflash: Wang is worthless in the PO, Pettite is a yr older and has baggage, Mussina is holding on by a thread, Hughes and Kennedy are both unknowns and health risks. The pitching depth behind this is suspect...... Sorry I thought we where stating the obvious:dunno:
  20. Come on Jacko, your better then this. I'd expect the oral garbage from others here. Your giving Lester s*** for being wild in his 1st Spring training start? Your Bashing Buchholz for getting hit hard? Have you not noticed threw your yrs of watching baseball, most of the best pitchers in the game get hammered for the first few weeks. Why is this? Because most of them just throw fastballs for the most part. Even a mediocore hitter can hit well against an elite pitcher if he knows that 90% of the pitchers he will see will be FB. And not even there best FB. All these guys are just trying to get there arms in better shape for the beginning of the season. Of course theres gonna be rust and work that need to be done with them. So you and Gom just chill for a second:D As for you Gom, Lester isn't starting the yr in AAA. If Buchholz and Ellsbury do its not the end of the division race as you seem to think it is. If Buchholz starts the yr in AAA, that means that Colon has shown he can be an adequate pitcher in the 5th spot and there no reason to rush Buchholz. He will be there insurance plan. Ellsbury could also start the yr in AAA. If Coco shows enough, and Kielty has shown he can be the 4th OF the yes Ellsbury will probably start in AAA. That way the Sox can showcase Coco and move him for a decent return. You see Gom your team is in a position where it needs to play its youngsters and have them produce at a big level or your team is Fahhhked. We have enough depth to where we don't need to rush or youngsters. All things considered don't you think the Yankees would rather be in a postition to let, Hughes, Kennedy and Chamberlin mature and be well rounded by the time they get to the bigs, instead of throwing them out there and crossing there fingers and hope they help keep this team a float.
  21. Sox should sign Papelbon to a 4 or 5 yr deal. They would get 3 arb yrs and either 1 or 2 yrs of his FA yrs. 6-700K this season, 900K next, 2.0 3rd, 3.5M 4th, 5M for the 5th. Roughly a 12M deal. Maybe add a couple option yrs to the end. I don't think its outrageous. Its a nice deal for both sides, Papelbon makes some coin and the Sox get a CP at a decent cost controlled cost. I know Corpas is no Papelbon but hes a comparable at this point, Manny Corpas rhp 4 years/$8.025M (2008-11), plus 2012, 2013 club options re-signed 2/28/08 $0.2M signing bonus 08:$0.575M, 09:$0.75M, 10:$2.75M, 11:$3.5M, 12:$6M club option ($0.25M buyout), 13:$8M club option ($0.5M buyout)
  22. Jays are better then some are saying. If Roy and AJ can stay healthy, the Jays will be a strong team.
  23. 88 might be a bit hi, but right around .500 is about right. This team is far from the pushover it has been since its been in the league...
